Hey guys. I'm running Kodi on a Pi Zero W with RetroPie. Whenever I try to play a video that is stored on the Pi, it crashes. I have gotten it to stream one other video from my PC just fine.

Here's a link to my crashlog: https://pastebin.com/raw/87Q43kZF

Here's the codec information for the video causing Kodi to crash (Provided by VLC):

Stream 0
Type: Video
Codec: MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H.265) (hevc)
Resolution: 1920x1088
Display Resolution: 1920x1080
Framerate: 30.000300
Decoded Format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV

Stream 1

Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)
Channels: 3F2R/LFE
Sample rate: 48000 Hz
AAC extension: SBR

Stream 2
Type: Subtitle

And here's the codec info for the video I was able to stream from my PC:

Stream 0
Type: Video

Resolution: 864x462
Display Resolution: 852x480

Thanks for any help!

11 seconds of 'nothing'? Or did you conveniently cut out some bits of the crashlog?

Quote:Codec: MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H.265) (hevc)
Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (H264)
Those are two different videos.

Is the 2nd one a h264-10bit video? Because a Raspberry Pi GPU is likely incompatible with that format.
Also, 1080p HEVC on a RPi3 is stretching its capabilities very much.

part 10 != 10 bit.

But yeah - the h265 (hevc) won't for sure work NOT on the Pi
UPDATE

It was due to the H.265 codec. It played fine after converting the video.

part 10 does not relate to the 'Bit' encoding

Hi10p is 10 bit

MPEG-4 PART 10 is H.264 ... which can be either 8 Bit or 10 Bit which you'll find under "Bit Depth:" using mediainfo

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC

and for H.265 on the RPi3 i would recommend using LibreELEC (Krypton) v8.0.2 MR

as this version and higher has added performance enhancements to HEVC support on Raspberry Pi.

Have personally tested dozens of 720p and 1080p HEVC files and they fine without any stuttering or glitching.
