Full Version: Cannot add SMB Share on W10 (v1703)

I started with Kodi 17.6 on a new, clean amlogic box (Android 7.1 running an a53 + Mali 450MP3 GPU).  It will see the DLNA Mezzmo server running on my windows 10 (v1703) machine, but I am unable to connect to my Win 10 Shares, and Kodi won't add files via DLNA to a library it seems.  I know that before the creators update, my other devices (WDTV) were able to see shares, but the creators update has messed up the master browser and that is persistent still.  The other Kodi anomaly I noticed is that it miss reports the resolution.  SPMC (current version) reports the resolution of 1080p properly.
When trying to add an SMB share I get the "Connection time out" error or the "error 2" one.  Things I tried thus far:

The shares on my windows 10 machine have permissions set on them (ie a special local account with read access) and the android box is connected via Ethernet.

-> Add network SMB using IP
-> Add network SMB using IP:445
-> Uninstall Kodi 17.6, install v 16.1 then upgrade to 17.6 (some said this worked for them)
-> Force Netbios over IP
-> Enable IPV6 stack on the network card for my win10 box
-> Ensure SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support is enabled (SMB Direct for v3.0 disabled)
->Tried other vid app like Archos\VLC\ES Explorer, it connects to the DLNA and or SMB without issue
-> Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache = 1
-> Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size = 3
-> Create Registry key IRPStackSize set size....

As a frame of reference, the current version of SPMC will not add or see SMB shares for me either, nor will it see my DLNA Mezzmo server (only have this in place for the WDTV since Win10's creators update messed up master browsing)

All this is making me look at sticking with the simplicity of my WDTV's.  :-)
I cannot quite make up from your post if you are using a user / pass when accessing the windows shares?
What exactly is this special permission local account?

Try creating a regular user, grant it read access and connect using these credentials.
Also, try setting ‘everyone/full’ on share permissions, and read NTFS permissions for this user.

If that fails ( or you already tried), what’s in your debug log (wiki) relating the connect attempt?

The user account I am using from the W10 box is a regular user...I say "special" in that I only use the account for media boxes to connect to the SMB shares.  The account has NFTS perms needed, and full access or read access on the share itself doesn't make a difference it seems (for the account or the everyone group)

The pertinant entries from my log (I think) are:

 "smb://storage/70EEFE46EEFE045E" is a USB stick I had plugged in and isn't related to the win10 share issue.  I think the stuff in bold captures the failure when trying to add the SMB share.

Please not to post debug logs directly, rather use pastebin without trimming (ofcourse, do remove personal info like you did here).
Anyway, it seems that the share is not even found initially. I found a similar issue and a possible solution. See if it works for you.

What are your current settings in the mentioned <smb> section..?  Do make backups before editing anything:

Hello
I have a similar problem
On Philips TV and on Beelink GT1 (Android TV 7.1) I have installed KODI 17.6.
The problem is that even one device can not write to the Synology DS281j or the Xtrend ET8000.
Disks are connected via SMB (I am logged on as admin) I have also downloaded NFS - the same problem
When I want to download a video from any server from over KODI, it always ends with an alert: Errno2 No such file or directory
Reading from HDD is OK
At Synology, I copied data through ES file manager, the SMB protocol, and it was not a problem.
im having this problem with my firestick and raspberry pi and windows. anyway to fix?
