Full Version: Does "sync playback to display" work with 3-2 cadence?

Suppose the video is 24fps and the display is 59.94Hz, will "sync playback to display" convert the video to 23.976fps (yielding steady 3-2 cadence)?

(I'm asking because it doesn't seem to be working...but I'll investigate further if it's supposed to work).
sync playback to display, aka smooth video, adjusts the speed of a video if refresh rate of display and video fps (considering multiples) do not differ by more than 5%.
In your case it wonˋt change the speed. nevertheless, on the reference platform, Linux X11, playback should result on a 2:3 cadence in average.

please elaborate on „not working“ and post your system spec
By "not work" I mean doesn't adjust the speed to match the display (divided by 2.5).

You say "(considering multiples)", so it should work, right?

The system is Android TV (Sony). It's possible that the symptom (jerky playback) has nothing to do with display syncing...I'm just asking questions, not pointing a finger.
If you play 23.976 material on a 59.94 display there is no need to adjust the speed. By using a 3:2 cadence there is an exact fit. If you play 23.976 on a 50 hz display, speed is adjusted by 4%.

My question was about 24.0fps on 59.94 (or 23.976fps on 60.0).

Ahh. Yes it does adjust the speed. When playing 23.976 on 60hz, you should see a speed of 100.100% indicated on player debug screen. But again, I have no idea how good this works on Android.

Ok, thanks. Therefore the problem must be something else. I only suspected display sync because the problem video was 24.0fps, which is unusual (most are 23.976).
