I am interested in a player who plays smoothly kodi, netflix, hbo-go, youtube, .... in 4K resol.
What can you recommend? it's hard to choose from the multitude of players and the thick specifications.
I would like to have official / unofficial support in the future.
Or is it worthwhile to wait for 1-2 months until a new player launch?
thank you

Have a look at the sticky threads at the top of this forum.

Your 4K Netflix requirement makes the choice a lot narrower - as only a handful of platforms support that and Kodi (or a python-less fork of Kodi called MrMC in the case of the Apple TV 4K - which means no streaming addons within MrMC, other than PVR clients).
Then rectify, for netflix, hbo-go, ... Full HD and kodi, what do you recommend?
Choices, especially for 4K Netflix, HBO Go & Kodi:

- NVIDIA Shield
- Apple TV 4K

Need smooth video playback with virtually All Apps, please read this:
Auto frame rate switching & dynamic range matching - 4K (HDR10) capable Hardware (click)
- Apple TV 4K

However as already stated you have to use the MrMC App (Kodi Jarvis) for media player use or a pretty nice App called Infuse - that is really slick.
MrMC cannot install any extra external Addons or use more than the 6 inbuilt Skins due to Apple's tvOS Store App restrictions.
Even tho it is the previous generation of Kodi it runs wells and is snappy due to the surprisingly powerful chipset in the new Apple TV 4K.

YouTube is limited to 1080p on the Apple TV 4K but it can do DolbyVision 4K Netflix and DV 4K iTunes streaming.

Netflix and Amazon Video (& more similar Apps) - DD+ audio on the ATV 4K can support 5.1 Dolby Digital (DD) output to older Dolby Digital only soundbars and TV's. The Shield cannot it needs a HDMI connected DD+ AVR/TV for that sort of 5.1 audio from those particular of Apps.

Need full blown Android Kodi Krypton (& upcoming Kodi Leia) with all the Addons and extra Skin bells and whistles, (non HDR) 4K YouTube, plus other needed Apps as already stated...
- NVIDIA Shield

Shield will give you Atmos and DTS:X Kodi / SPMC passthrough audio if that is important.

Please take particular note of the Mini Wireless remote complaints on the 2017 Shield like this THIS thread. Such lagging Mini remote complaints seem to be pretty common these days on the Shield.

4K HDR YouTube is not possible on the Shield due to a lack of support for Google's YouTube HDR - VP9 Profile2 video compression standard.
Frame Rate Matching, of virtually all Apps is not possible on the Shield except when using Kodi, Plex and SPMC - where it works.
Google's Nougat OS on the Shield does not even support colorspace conversion/switching - you have to deep dig into settings and switch manually for correct SDR and then 4K HDR color outputs all the time you view mixed content. (This may possibly get fixed in the next Android Oreo update)

1080p > 4K picture upscaling output quality - noticeable as a users display gets bigger and bigger:
Good on the Apple TV 4K
Below average on the NVIDIA Shield.

Basically choose what is most important:
Full blown Kodi with some video output and DRM Apps streaming audio limitations

or

Restricted Kodi but with a better overall operating system with features and Apps support for proper video outputs and matching frame rates for nice smooth video playback.
Buy a Raspberry Pi 3 Plate, or a $ 50 Android TV Box,?
I'm not interested in 4k.
AMLogic S905X or S912 box running DIY LibreELEC Kodi Krypton:

Choosing a S905 / S905X / S905D / S905W / S912 box guide (click)

Why ?

Because it hardware decodes 8/10bit HEVC (h.265) video and is a bit future proofed for 4K HDR video playback.
Faster than a RPi3, especially if LibreELEC Kodi Krypton is run from internal eMMC flash storage.

Otherwise just buy a Plug N Play - $69 Xiaomi Mi Box, the International, USA Spec version that runs Android TV if you also want Netflix and YouTube Apps. However it does not do Kodi refresh switching for ultra smooth video playback.
This ZIDOO H6 PRO / Beelink GT1 Ultime makes a Kodi refresh switch for ultra-smooth video playback, worth ~ 75 €, have I got a better alternative?
Stay away from the Zidoo H6 Pro because the Allwinner Chipset it uses really does not get any Kodi support from Kodi developers at all.
Allwinner have been really bad following standard Android Application programming interfaces that Android Kodi Krypton now uses.
The H6 does NOT give you Kodi dynamic refresh switching, read this review to see how bad it is when using Kodi Krypton:

https://www.cnx-software.com/2017/11/10/...-firmware/

You have to use a custom media player software solution with that Zidoo box and that is when the headaches will start.

The Beelink GT1 will also NOT give you Android Kodi Krypton refresh switching, BUT if you run LibreELEC Kodi Krypton on it, basically everything in Kodi Krypton will then work including refresh switching. No 720p or 1080p Netflix on any GT1 either.

Boxes that give you Android Kodi Krypton refresh switching:

- NVIDIA Shield (Android TV)
- WeTek Play2
- MINIX U9

The WeTek and MINIX boxes can also run LibreELEC Kodi Krypton.
You will also get 1080p Netflix working on those boxes as they have L1 DRM and HDCP 1.x

The Shield has the best Android TV Apps support, inc. Netflix and HBO Go(i think)
If you want a really good version of Kodi you use OSMC or LibreELEC Kodi Krypton on a AMLogic S905X or S912 box.

If on a tight budget simply buy the MECOOL M8S Pro L and do a simply OTA update and run this good Android TV ROM:
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-supp...oid-tv-7-1

That will give you a 1080p Android TV version of Netflix working out of the Box. Possibly HBO as well. YouTube definitely works.
It will not give you Android Kodi refresh switching - you have to "repeat after me" - run LIbreELEC Kodi Krypton from an external micro SDHC card, in a dual boot setup for that:

On Nvidia Shield go all the applications and know DRM? Or to guide me to MINIX U9 or WeTek Play2 (not very popular) or last choice MECOOL M8S Pro L.
