I am running NextPVR backend with Kodi Krypton frontend. NextPVR shows commercial skips (blank areas on line at bottom of screen) but Kodi does not seem to skip those  commercials.
Am I missing some simple way to have Kodi skip those commercials?

Jerry
@glb45

Are you able to post a screenshot of those "blank areas on line". I have to admit I have been using NextPVR for over a year now, and never noticed it before... nor had any awareness that it could skip commercials.
Kodi doesn't support comskip markings on the playback timeline.   In addition comskip edl files aren't loaded by http so they won't work with NextPVR streaming.  The x-newa NextPVR addon for Kodi can be configured to load comskip files via a share and in web client mode it shows the same screens so you see in NextPVR.

Martin
It is possible to add comskip to NextPVR and do the ad skip during or after the show. When playing the recording  on NextPVR, the timeline at the bottom of the screen shows darker parts where the ads are located (and green parts for the non ad parts). Kodi used to skip the ads from comskip if you wrote the files to a separate folder. I wrote them to a folder on my connected disk drive  called TV Recordings.

Jerry
I answered that already so if you want comskip breaks shown on the PVR playback timeline or generally comskip via generic http those would be a requests for Kodi developers not specific to NextPVR.  Sub already makes the edl file available via http, it is ever supported.  Also comskip does still works via TV Recordings but Kodi doesn't support dynamic reloading of the file during in-progress recordings, that would be an additional request.  For comskip to work in-progress in the PVR section another Kodi change would be required to properly support http playback of files that grow.

I was replying to karellen as he did not  know that comskip worked with NextPVR. Kodi used to recognize the NextPVR ad skips (I used it all the time) as long a the show was saved in a separate folde, i.e. not the Kodi videos folder. Why has that feature been removed?

Ok, but comskip files still works on files in TV Shows and Video and AFAIK t has never worked in the pvr addon directly because of non-support for http , any problem you have is not related to NextPVR.

Martin
Martin,

I think you are referring to concurrent (streaming?) ad deletion. I am referring to a completed saved file that has been processed by NextPVR. The actual processing can be done in parallel or after the show has completed. The former method is ready to be used sooner, i.e., essentially as soon as the show is done. The latter takes more  time after the show to perform the post processing. In either case the older version of Kodi recognized the ad skips.

Jerry
Yes NextPVR supports parallel and post processing for comskip but as you say that is only a factor in when the process is finished.   Once it is finished, if your play a file from the Video Library or TV shows Kodi continues to read the edl file and use it in Kodi 17.6 and 18 alpha.  If you play a file from the NextPVR addon it will not use comskip,

Martin
Martin,

So now I am confused. I used to have to write the NextPVR finished (processed) file to a separate folder from Kodi's Videos file. Where do I write them now to have Kodi skip the ads?

You can write the recording to any location where Kodi can read the ts file and the edl file directly.

Martin
Martin,

I have tried to use Kodi on a number of different NextPVR comskipped TV shows and the results are very strange. The skipping does not work correctly and I have to go to NextPVR to obtain consistent skipping results. This was not the case with the previous version of Kodi where the skipping worked just as in NextPVR.

See my post here:  V18 - EDL processing not invoked while using SMB definition on same host as file is located

I think we are describing the same issue.

How does one "play a file from the NextPVR addon"?  I understand how to play a file from the video library and from TV Shows, but I don't see a way to play a file via the add-on.  Are you referring to the "Recordings" menu item within "TV"?  I guess the info in my other post in this thread is not germane to this problem.  It sure seemed to me that it was/is.
Yes, he's referring the Recordings menu item within TV. If you play from there, it's streamed over http, and unfortunately Kodi wont ask for comskip info.
