Started from scratch (Kodi on Pi2) but have no control of the mouse cursor when I boot the Pi up (on the OS select screen) after copying over the NOOBS files to it- what am I missing pls??!?
Can you clarify exactly what you did?
Started with a noobs card and then used that to install Kodi? If so which option, LibreElec, OSMC or Raspbian with a Kodi install in that?
This sounds more like an issue with Noobs rather than Kodi, which is better asked on the
Raspberry Pi Foundation forums.
If you're just looking to use the Pi as a media player though, you're better off installing an image of
LibreElec or
OSMC and avoiding Noobs entirely. Both have full instructions and SD card creation apps for PC's/Macs that can help you along.

If your plan is to solely use Kodi by installing LibreELEC, please forgot about NOOBS.
LibreELEC has its own
USB/SD Creator tool for a one-stop installation of Kodi onto your SD card.
