Should be fixed in tomorrows builds I believe.
no fix in KodiSetup-20180605-23261e1a
On Windows with Kodi closed, can you rename the your %APPDATA%\kodi folder to something like %APPDATA%\old_kodi then start Kodi so it creates a new %APPDATA%\kodi folder, then check to see if issue still present, if so then please confirm if your examples provided in frist post are still valid and if not please give some new ones. Then once done testing you can rename or delete this newly created folder and restore the original folder back by renaming it to %APPDATA%\kodi again.
This is basically to test to see if the kodi-20180602-b5181d72 has fixed the issue if started with no previous userdata, as it maybe that the kodi-20180603-dba439f5 build has corrupted something.

jjd-uk If I do the renaming, it looks like this (kodi-20180603-dba439f5 + KodiSetup-20180606-2ac986a3):

jjd-uk Can you say anything about that?

Unfortunately that is a bit too technical an issue for me to advise. I could not see anything in the log that may cause it.
Hopefully one of the developers will come along and have a look.
still not solved in KodiSetup-20180613-ddf182e4
Can you confirm whether this Nightly
KodiSetup-20180602-b5181d72-master-x64.exe works ok? so this is the Nightly immediately before the one you report as failing from.
[edit] sorry missed you had confirmed that build was working
@jjd-uk kodi.exe -p - no change, text labels are still missing

Have you edited that image in any way? I am wondering why the menu panel looks squashed. Is that how you see it on your screen?

Ok, that no text labels were displayed was due to the completely empty settings, because then Kodi is started in full screen by default and this had interlocked with my window positioning tool, which positioned the Kodi window to certain coordinates (hence the squashes). Kodi took offense and then doesn't show any labels at all. Sorry for this mistake on my part!
So we can put the problem back to my first post here, Kodi simply lacks text labels if you use Kodi with more profiles and then activated the login screen.
I reported a bug nearly 2 years ago, and this still seems to be the reason, because I use profiles again recently -->
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=302368
This setting is the reason for the subsequent text label errors:
<useloginscreen>true</useloginscreen>
What is different compared to the old bug message is that now even the default skin Estuary is affected. That's why I didn't immediately get the connection!
