Hey guys I decided to install ubuntu 18 after my old ubuntu 14 hard drive failed. But I cant get my cec device to work in kodi Leia nightly. I also tried Krypton from the stable ppa and that didn't work either. I had it all working on ununtu 14 with kodi 18 nightly on my previous setup so I don't know if I need to do anything different in ubuntu 18. Kodi sees the device in input but fails to initialise.

make sure your user has permissions for the cec device. IIRC adding it to the plugdev group should work
I have the permissions set for plugdev
If you mean adding plugdev to my user I ran this command when creating my user I run kodi in an openbox session so I needed a user.
Sudo usermod -a -G cdrom,video,plugdev,input,netdev user
bash:
ls -l /dev/ttyACM0
Look at which group owns it and add your user to that group. Mine is owned by the dialout group on Ubuntu 18.04.
