I've been stuck on Kodi 14 for several years b/c the newer versions of Kodi won't play .wtv files with Dolby.  I opened a bug report, but they closed it because they consider .wtv as not worth coding to fix.

Can any of you guys get them to fix this?  Kodi 14 works for the most part, but I'd sure like to take part in the future and still using WMC as my recording back end..
I cannot influence them any more then you can.  When you say it won't play them, what exactly happens?  What happens if you remux the wtv files to ts in serverwmc before you play them?
I cannot remember exactly what happens, but it involves the file playing and Dolby not showing up on my receiver.

I haven't tried remuxing.

I remember you telling me that remuxing was going to become mandatory for Kodi at some point. Has that happened yet?

Did you ever solve the problem of new recordings not being playable?
Remuxing will never be required, rather that Kodi would require all recording be opened by pvr.wmc for playback.  This is true in kodi17 and up and, yes, in those versions you will not have the new recordings bug.
Is the debug option that you set-up for me several years ago the same thing that Kodi 17+ requires?  (I think it is "Debug_RequestAllRecordings")

If so, then the bug is still present, but you can work around it by doing a library update at least once after starting Kodi.  In order for the library update to fix the bug, you must have at least one entry in the video or TV section for Kodi to scan when doing the update.
No, the Debug_RequestAllRecordings workaround is different, in particular it does nothing from kodi 17 and up.  But if you have tried kodi17+ and you are saying the bug is still there, then I must be wrong about what causes the new-recording bug (sorry about that).
I have not tried Kodi 17.  I'm still on Kodi 14 via OpenELEC.  But, I know that, eventually, I'm going to have to upgrade.
I use iDealshare VideoGo to convert WTV to Kodi more supported video format to successfully wtv via kodi.
