After updating to version 18 the link in the TV box apps doesn't work. I have to go to settings, downloaded apps to launch Kodi.

You haven't said what your device is or any other details. Hard to help but I assume this is some flavour of Android box with a custom skin that has a Kodi shortcut embedded in the home page.
You should be able to edit the shortcut to point to Kodi v18, or have the ability to delete the shortcut and add v18 from the app drawer. All of the Android TV launchers I have tried have some facility to do this.
