Greetings,

Whenever I try to access a shared folder on an external HD connected to my PC, I get an "invalid argument" error.

Locally shared folders on my PC work fine.

Also, when I attempt to do this same thing using my Rasperry Pi 3 + OSMC (Kodi), I can access my folders on my external HD fine, which leads me to believe it's a Shield issue.

Is this the one thing the Pi can do that the Shield cannot? That would be my luck.

I want to play 4K videos from my external without connecting it to my Shield and the Pi can't play 4k video

Thanks
My fire tv (kodi 17.6 installed) can do what you are trying to do with your shield, using smb to access a usb hdd connected to my pc running windows 7. I don't see why the shield wouldn't be able to do it as well.
i agree. all this power, you'd think it'd be simple, but i imagine this is more a software issue?
