Playing video files with a DTS-HD MA is a hit and miss affair. Mostly miss.
The AVR shows that it is getting all the channels and recognises DTS-HD MA, but there is no sound.
AVR problem? Kodi problem?

Detailed info below.

Thanks!

Nico

The computer is a Dell Latitude 6220, i5 with Intel video.
On-board HDMI used (2 DVI-D/DisplayPort available on attached docking station, but unused/untested).
Up-to-date Ubuntu 18.04-LTS.
Unstable Kodi PPA (18RC1 at the moment).
Followed the Intel VAAPI with v18 guide.
Framerate adjusted with a 2.5s pause.
The AVR is a Denon AVR-2310
The TV is a Toshiba 37" 1080p.

EDID manually loaded from a GRUB Option:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="drm.edid_firmware=HDMI-A-1:edid/denon-edid.bin video=HDMI-A-1:e quiet splash"
EDID file copied from /sys

I take it before you start or before i look at your log files, DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 are working perfectly?

Also i take it you are NOT running pulseaudio at all?

If those are both answer yes i'll delve in.

Cheers

Derek
DTS, AC3, EAC3 are all fine.

NO Pulseaudio at all.

Nico
I also have the issue after upgrading to RC1 that DTS-HD MA isn't working anymore.
Disabling the option "hd capable" solves the problem but you only get DTS.

I saw a commit a few days ago disabling DTS-HD because of the issues with HRA. And there was a discussion about if it's right or not to do that.

Seems it was merged and DTS-HD is now completely unusable. I would have welcome an option (call it workaround) to use DTS-core for HRA and only HRA for those having known these issues.
Please inform yourself and don't spread false information. Nothing was disabled at all!

Without your Debug Log, the next "me too" post will walk to the trash bin.
I've been a good boy, I have given the debug log and more! :-)

But not so good that your log doesn't contain at least one banned addon (wiki) (F4MProxy)...
The forum moderators have determined that banned addons (wiki) are present on your system. To receive assistance here, these banned items must be removed. If a clean log is not submitted within 3 days, then the relevant post(s) will be removed after this time.
Oh... Ugly leftover from a temporary visitor going wild... I hope I got the rest of the stupid dependencies out... Very sorry...

Freplay and catchuptvandmore are legally giving me access to non-geo blocked TV programs from home (France). I hope that they are fine with you.

Edit: debug log without traces of removals
A few other things:

Every time I start and stop playing a video with DTS-HD MA without getting any audio, I can hear a very brief and faint noise from the speakers.

I've swapped the high speed HDMI cable for another one, just in case, but same result.

Once in a while the audio will work, perfectly.

I also believe (not 100% sure) that I have better chances of getting audio if I start the file from the beginning. Resuming play in the middle of the movie appears to be problematic.

Some files are more constant in failure than others.

From kodi pov everything looks fine. It's DTS-HD MA file and the way this is transmitted was not changed since more than 5 years :-)
So that's downstream, then... Either the HDMI cable (changed already, with no real faith) or the Devon AVR-2310...

Ooooookayyyy...

I would have prefered a bug!

Thanks for looking at it!

Nico
Just an update to show interest and maybe put info on record that could help someone else.

So, I did some more digging, and it appears that my Denon AVR-2310 is a bit touchy-feely with HDMI HD bitstream audio... My AVR is running quite an early version of its firmware. I have the files to upgrade to a newer version that is supposed to fix a lot of stuff of interest for this case, but I am waiting for a good old serial cable to do the actual update. I'll report back here.

In the meantime, the AVR is known not to have any issue with multi-channel PCM.
Am I understanding correctly that if I set my output to 7.1 in the Kodi settings and cancel HD bitstream passthrough, Kodi will do the DTS-HD MA decoding itself and send multichannel PCM?

Thanks!

Nico
correct
Indeed, it works! Thanks!

I'll look at the CPU usage, as this box is not only doing Kodi.

That AVR firmware upgrade should, hopefully, bring back bitstream decoding out of the Kodi box, once done.
