Full Version: Nvidia Shield Experience Upgrade 7.2.1 broke my KODI install?

After upgrading to 7.2.1 on the NVidia Shield and launching KODI, I tried playing a vídeo file, whole system hanged with a freezing sound alongside it, I had to make a "cold" power off (plug the cord), the system is back on and but KODI wont start. It just stays in the back ground unaccesible.
Version 18 RC3 (tried with RC 4 nightlies and its the same)
When I installed latest RC4 nightlies, it prompted the "first start" but then it soon minimized and wont open.

Anyone having this issue?

Also when I launch KODI and it minimizes, 80% of my menu icons go grey for a couple of seconds.

After checking the kodi logs through SMB I see this:

What the hell?
I'm running latest Kodi nightly and Shield 7.2.1 and I don't have this problem. Whole my library and video files are on a NAS with Samba (SMB).

Rename your current Kodi profile folder and restart Kodi to create a fresh setup. If that works, then there was something stuck in your profile settings.
Try saving the kodi.old.log next time for possible clues, or crash logs, if available.

I've upgraded to RC3 on an 'old' Shield TV, and it works. Although the controller button for "OK" turned into a pause button somehow, the Shield remote still works as before.

I don't have a profile folder. Only "profiles.xml" which was empty. I ended up importing one from another of my NVidia Shields (I have 3) and changing the necessary fields and it's working. The "profiles.xml" on my NVidia Shield that was not starting KODI, as empty.
EDIT: Just happened on another of my NVidia Shields. Gonna try and grab the crash log for you
I'd be happy if Kodi would ever work completely with Shield controllers. How can it still be broken years later? MrMc seems to work just fine.
-> use MrMC

I might. I was using SPMC and changed to KODI when it got discontinued. Now I'm having a problem on 4k vídeos not showing subtitles when I choose "Fixed" position.

Regarding MrMC can you quick and dirty, tell me the main diferences between that and KODI oficial branch?

I have Emby Server and I use Emby for KODI.
I have 3 shields and all were upgraded to 7.2.1 running Kodi RC3 and none have any problems with emby as my backend with both emby for kodi & embycon.

I second @Klojum that it is probably something wonky in your .kodi profile folder.

Within the kodi filemanager, navigate to "/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/". Within that folder, rename the .kodi folder to .kodibak. Then force stop kodi (you can just double click the home button, then kill kodi using the recents screen on the Shield) and restart. That will give you a fresh profile to see if something in your old config was messeg up.

My guess is that this will solve your problem though, so before you jump ship to MrMC, try this.

I had a problem running kodi first time after updating shield to 7.2.1 going into nvidia application settings force closing kodi then clearing cache fixed it. Remember to clear cache only if your clear app data you will lose all your settings.
Hi,

had today also first time that problem. Saw same error inside the log. My guisettings.xml and profiles.xml are empty (0 byte). I had a backup and copy these 2 files over. After that Kodi works. Really strange

Every week or so my SHield controllers suddenly don't work.  Sigh, back to other alternatives, Kodi already took me hours just to get a basic functioning system.  MRMC doesn't look as nice and doesn't have the same skin support but it just plain works without all the hassles.
