Hi everyone,
according to this topic: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=263760, after upgrade Kodi to 18 and now 18.1 version I lost pssibility to lissten my music when screen is off.
I'm using Nvidia Shield and external USB audio DAC. In 16.x version I controled music playback using Yatse without turning on scrren now I need to power on my projector.
Please restore this function or give possibility to choose.

Regards.
Moved to music.
I use Kodi all the time to play music with TV off, so this is not a general issue with v18. Sounds much more like a specific issue with your system or maybe the Shield, but you don't provide enough information for anyone to help you.
There are 2 settings that sound alike, screen saver and power saving. Your issue is related to power saving under system settings.
Ok, this is my debug log: https://paste.kodi.tv/girefacedi.kodcreated on fresh install v 18.1.
Everything works perfectly fine when I lessten music using other software e.g. YouTube app.

My KODI Power saving configuration:
Shutdown function timer: Off
Shutdown Function: Quit
Maximum wait time for network: Off
...and Screensaver mode: None

Music stops playing immediately after screen off.
@DaveBlake I used too, until update to v18 Sad
Here is link to movie to help explain the problem:

Do you have CEC enabled on your equipment? Can you disable it?
Also, how is your equipment set up? Do you have an AVR?

If yes, how is it connected...

Kodi>TV>AVR
or
Kodi>AVR>TV
This is my schema:

So far I used blue path because that was only one way to play sound with turned off projector, but when I disconnect USB audio card I can still send audio thru the red path.
When You suggested HDMI configuration I started searching HDMI Pass-Through and it emerged that I do not need USB audio card. I do not know why I did not use this method from the beginning. Smile
I know this is a rare scenario, but previous method still doesn't working with new version of Kodi however, thank You very much for time and suggestion.
