Nope - it doesn't actually make sense for it to be useful there, as there is no container active.
IMO the tvshowthumb should be a property of the item in addition to being a property of the container (it's a property of the container for the simple reason that the container is an item). The same applies to fanart et. al.

It was more for displaying an icon within the video OSD. So I have a movie poster visible when the OSD pops up, which given a TV episode results in a stretched thumbnail of the episode playing. I'd much rather be able to display the thumbnail for the TV show playing.

then you would need a videoplayer.tvshowthumb like the rest of the video info stuff
