Thanks to all for this section of the Kodi forum. Many here know a lot more than I presently have time to about configuring and using Kodi and other players.

And many here are into accessing and requesting key features. But as I haven't yet replaced my aged desktop pc I'm not ready to load robust 2K Blu Ray movie playback software like Kodi. And because I want my desktop to be central to my home theatre I need a Windows player with 2K BD movie playback quality at least matching my old Cambridge Audio 650BD player-but which can also access the zoom and slow motion features all hardware BD players can only do for DVDs.

I learned that JRiver, Media Player Classic or Zoom Player all require BDs to be decrypted with software like AnyDVD HD and for it to then run in the background in order to play BDs and/or access the specials features that we have all enjoyed without decryption while playing DVDs. I can only guess at why the BD Association imposed these restrictions, which it presumably does by using this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BD-J

Will Kodi also do zoom and slow motion when playing decrypted BDs?

I see that Kodi apparently has versatile multi-channel audio options, though without more intimate knowledge of the formats I wouldn't yet know how to configure its interface with the powered speakers and multi-channel DAC that I plan to install. Audio_quickstart_guide (wiki)

Can Kodi downmix the BD's 5.1 audio to as small as 4.1 audio if I didn't have a center channel speaker?

And can it output 5.1 or 4.1 audio to a DAC like this one via USB or SPDIF?  https://www.exasound.com/Products/e38Mar...elDAC.aspx

Since like most or all of the above Windows players Kodi cannot directly read BD movie menus. But if Kodi doesn't read menus from the disc to play the movie do I just click start and it begins playing the movie from the beginning of the movie's credits to its end credits?

And if you want to play a particular special feature on the disc like the "isolated soundtrack" version of this movie (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare...thwest.htm ), is it only possible by going into some folder and then locate the (possibly obscurely named?) file and click on it to play it?

Would I do the same thing to access other features that the studio may have put on the disc like "coming attractions" or "commentary"?

I see there are play/pause and zoom keyboard controls. And I was especially glad that Kodi player does allow you to zoom in over a range of magnification.

But can you zoom in and out on the scene of a decrypted BD movie on the fly in real time?

And Kodi does slow motion playback; called speed control here.  https://kodi.wiki/view/Keyboard_controls#Mouse_controls

On the fly slow motion playback with decrypted BDs too?

If not, would another Windows player have all of these features?      JRiver?   Media Player Classic?

There certainly are a lot of questions in your post and I think most of them you can answer for yourself by just installing Kodi and playing with it. But I will make some general comments, and others can answer your more specific Audio questions...

1. Don't be so firm in keeping the Bluray structure as there is no benefit. Instead, rip your Bluray to either the single file m2ts or mkv. For your Extras, save them to an Extras folder and access them using one of the Extras add-ons... Extras (wiki)
2. What do you consider an Aged pc? My test pc is an i3-7770K with GTX670, and my main HTPC is i5-4440 with HD4600 graphics. Most of my library is BluRay and I can easily play Blurays, and even some 4k movies.
3. If your intent is to play from the Bluray disk, then I don't think Kodi is what you want. A simple player like VLC or similar will do the job for you.
4. Some of the links in My Signature will be of use to your.
