Having issues with Playback (this thread ) and it was suggested I update.... Naturally that is the first thing I tried but  I have not been able to update in a long time ...
9 (stretch) .

I refuse to use Ubuntu anymore...

 add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/xbmc-nightly
 Official Team Kodi nightly builds.
Less stable than unstable, these are untested automated nightly builds.

This ppa is not compatible with Debian, it was made for Ubuntu.

As you have plenty of issues with your Debian itself, see other thread, I would think once more about your own decision. Your problems here have zero to do with kodi, but are entirely related to you trying to use Debian...
