fairly new to kodi but when I try o download a new video add on it says I am offline and the zip files are empthy any help would be greatly appreciated

You posted in the Add-ons section. Which add-on(s) are you talking about, and also which zip files?

any kodi video add ons I try to install, I go through all the steps and when I try install from a zip file its always blank

My gut feeling here is that you are trying to install certain 3rd party Kodi add-ons that facilitate video piracy, e.g. movies, tv series and/or sports for starters.
