Full Version: Tagging of MKA files isn't working

Hi,

I have a number of MKA files which I have tagged using Mp3tag. Folder structure is:

Artist -> Artist - Album -> Song.mka

Artist and album tags are definitely filled in.

Kodi doesn't recognize albums at all. It has knowledge about the artist. I can browse folders and play the files but it is annoying that fanart is missing and that I can't use the album submenu for example.

Tried to download Musikbrainz Picard to see if it would make a difference to use that for tagging but it doesn't work with mka files.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tags from  .mka files are read using the ffmpeg tag factory. I guess a debug log made while scanning takes for an example file may show something, or perhaps you can provide an example .mka file that may reveal something.
This sounded vaguely familiar...
There is an issue with the way ffmpeg reads tag values from Matroska files - there are tags missing in particular Album. See https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/16349. Kodi uses ffmpeg to read tags from .mka files hence is unable to create a proper library entry. It needs a fix to ffmpeg and a ticket has been raised with them, meanwhile nothing that Kodi can do about it.

Thanks Dave,

Hopefully this will get fixed soon. I have been reading the threads you referenced. Sounds like cue files might be a workaround. Can anyone tell me how to create one that would solve this until a fix is in place?

Thanks in advance

If you create a CUE file for your mka albums, with songs as individual files, Kodi scans the cue and loads the audio library with its contents and the files play via the Kodi UI, remote control apps and playlists.

Note: In Kodi 18.x you must ensure the individual song mka files do not have chapters. If they do the CUE if ignored.

There’s a thread here in this music section with example cue I think. I’ll find it and post a link.
