I use firetv through wifi on my netgear nighthawk r-7000 & playing either hd or 720P, files also hd- 60 fps video files on kodi leia18.6 fast forward & rewind just doesn't have the right speed & is choppy then it caches, then it skips when fast forward even on 8x, kodi 17.6 plays fine, but some features work better on both versions, I tried using plex & plexkodiconnect & kodi-with a nfs server.  what could be the problem?

IMO, wifi in general.

Having to play a video at 8x full speed is not what Kodi is designed to do.
Your wifi connection will also probably not allow a video file to be transmitted at that 8x speed.
We're not talking small text documents here, but 60fps HD video files.
So yes, it'll skip.

You could provide a debug log (wiki), perhaps we'll see a clue to a bigger problem.

Thanks for replying I will figure out how to do a log?  But why is kodi 17.6-krypton works much better, too make hd 60 fps work in 17.6 i turn off deinterlace so it doesn't play funny that was another thing I learned once.
Also it was worse on my nvidia shield.  I found one fix to try in video settings for enable hq scalers mine is default they said 100% then said 0%,  & i unchecked the hardware acceleration.

Well it works better on most videos after making the changes in settings but on hd-720P it won't fast forward well it is PAL format, maybe that is it, I have to hit another button on the remote to skip 10 sec. at a time.
