I have spent weeks unsuccessfully trying to update the "plot" of my home movies.

In fact, other other items started vanishing (like my votes, icons, and artwork). Basically how do I refresh an NFO file? I deleted and re-added my source. Changed the Content from None then back to NFO. Rescanned. Updated from IDMB and switched back. Cleaned up the library. Renamed my NFO. But nothing is working. I have read all the wiki and forums but have no idea what am I missing? Something seems to be resident and I cannot remove it.

Thanks much.
@acemib

First lets check your nfo files to make sure they are correct, then we can move onto refreshing them. Post one of your nfo files to Kodi Paste Site and provide the link.

Here is my nfo template that I use.

Cannot see any problems in the file. If you want a smaller template, you can find one here in section 4... https://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files/Movies

There are no artwork links in the nfo file, so I presume you have added some local artwork in your folders? Is the artwork still there in the folder? If you delete it, eventually the artwork displayed in Kodi will also be deleted. If you use local artwork, it needs to stay there.

I cannot see a reason why your ratings would disappear.

The way to update Kodi with changes to nfo files is to run a Refresh from the Information page... https://kodi.wiki/view/Basic_controls#Information_Page

The name of the nfo file might cause a problem depending on your settings What is the name of the nfo file? If it is movie.nfo then read here... https://kodi.wiki/view/Adding_video_sour...ateFolders
Thanks for all the help. My artwork is in the file folders. To be honest, not sure I doing the local artwork correctly. I only use "poster.jpg" and "fanart.jpg". I wasn't able to find a lot of literature on artwork. I know there is clearlogo and bunch of other artwork options, but the wiki is not that intuitive for a noob like me. I sort of stick to the basics.

I removed my source and then cleaned library. Re-added the source and it seems it might be updating now. I am running a few more tests. Regarding the nfo file name, I played around with a ton of naming conventions including "video_ts", "index", and the file name. Again, I wasn't clear what was wrong or right.
Well, I am absolutely baffled once again. I made a few changes to the nfo file - such as the title, plot, tagline, and aspect. And POOF ... it all went away again when I tried to refresh. All that showed up was the new title. Even the tags on the bottom disappeared. This is so frustrating. Obviously I am not following the proper procedures but where am I going wrong?

Read the Artwork (wiki) pages and check the screenshots which is probably easier to follow. The screenshots show how a typical movie/tv show/episode should be setup with files and their correct naming.
Once everything is named correctly, Kodi will just pick it up.

Can you list with a lot of detail exactly what you are doing. I'll try to spot the error.

Karellan - thank you so much for being patient with my ongoing errors (self-inflicted). I plan to restart from scratch and make my home movies folders again. I will closely follow all the rules and see if it is a file folder structure issue. It will take me a few days to put this together ... and hopefully it will be resolved. I will report back soon. Thanks again.
OK, nothing has changed. I am obviously unable to follow instructions on how to locally use NFO files. My video library is an absolute mess. I restarted from scratch and listed my home movies as per the instructions (or not, apparently). I have spent months trying to simply add my own information for my home movies but it has been disastrous.

The refresh does nothing, and to make matters even more infuriating and frustrating, each individual video within the VIDEO_TS file are scanned into my library - so I get many multiple entries of one movie title. I have tried every setting but nothing changes, the get scanned in. I just cannot seem to get it figured out. What am I missing?
This is my step by step:

I remove all my sources.
Clean Library.
Add video source in library, pick my directory where the movies reside.
Select Directory contains Movies
Select Information Provider "local info"
I have toggled on/off separate folders, recursive, excluding ~ nothing really changes but different issues
select "OK" to refresh items in path
@acemib

That sounds ok.

Can you provide the following...

1. Screenshot of one of your Home Movie folders so I can see the path and the contents of the folder (artwork, video file, nfo file)
2. Your nfo file uploaded to https://ufile.io/ and provide the link. This lets me check the actual nfo file to ensure there is nothing wrong with the file itself, as the contents you posted above looked ok.
3. A Debug Log which captures you trying to scrape one of your home movies, so I can check what Kodi is doing and why it is skipping the movie.

Thanks.

This was what I attempted to do for the debug log ....
I updated the NFO file for that first movie, "2003-4 Vacations Disk 1 (Legacy)" but it would not REFRESH with new NFO info.
So, I went to FILES and removed Source and all items from the Library
SYSTEM-MEDIA: cleaned library and removed media libraries
VIDEOS: Added videos, "Home Movie Final"
Selected Directory contains: Movies and Local Only. Nothing else selected. Then picked refresh.
Returned to my MOVIES directory and now "2003-4 Vacations Disk 1 (Legacy)" has 10 entries and no updated NFO. Also, ""2003-4 Vacations SD Disk 1 (Redux)" has 13 entries.

If the image is on your computer, use button 19.
If the image has already been uploaded to a public image hosting site, right click the image and select Copy image location then use button 14 and paste the link

Nothing wrong with the nfo file. It is in the correct UTF-8 encoding format. I note you named it VIDEO_TS.nfo. I assume you are using DVD folders?
