Should hopefully have many more peripherals drivers for USB hub chips, wired network adapters, Wi-Fi adapters, storage controllers, and more.

Still not a cheap solution but at least there are few USB-C hubs that feature integrated 1Gbps Ethernet adapters for those wanting wired Gigabit network.

Works:

Utaxo 8-in-1 USB C Hub: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RWG8M15/ (Confirmed by 2 DPs that it works and supports Ethernet and storage - FAT32 is the only supported format by CCGTV)

Anker USB C Hub, PowerExpand 8-in-1 USB C : https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerExpand...B087QZVQJX

Partially works:

TOTU USB C Hub,9-In-1 Type C Hub (ethernet and peripherals only - no storage): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FX2...UTF8&psc=1

Don't Work:

Aukey 5-in-1 with Ethernet (latest version ethernet drivers not supported): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089M7...UTF8&psc=1
Can I use paragon for exFAT and NTFS drives connected through hub to play local content from a SSD through Kodi on the new "Chromecast"?

Thinking of buyin that thing, because amazon fire tv stick gets bloated more and more. But I'm using Disney+, Prime and Netflix, so a single kodi device isn't the solution.

The easiest way to Share files from a Windows / Linux / Mac / NAS file server setup to Kodi is using Zeroconf, see here to see how that is done
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid2971806

And if your file server supports it use NFS instead of SMB due to less network overheads and it consequently being faster.

Interesting I just built a file server with OpenMediaVault on my Raspberry Pi but I setup an SMB share maybe I'll give NFS a shot, In the past I've always used SMB shares so this is new to me.

No issue for me with SMB...
As with any new Kodi install, I drop my advancedsettings.xml, Mediasources.xml and sources.xml into the userdata folder, close/re-open Kodi, and that's it. Instantly connected to my SQL databases and everything plays without an issue. As a matter of fact, I couldn't use X-plore to connect my SMB shares to get to those files, so I used Kodi's file manager, added my SMB server's info, and could copy paste those files directly from the share to the userdata folder. Not sure why others are bashing Google not supporting this.
Also, as a FYI, my samba server is ran in a docker container (https://github.com/dperson/samba) in a Debian server.

As for my first thoughts on the CCWGTV, which I bought to stop using Visio's Smartcast platform on a P65-F1 (slow), to take advantage of my receiver's capabilities that can't go through HDMI 2.0 ARC (no ATMOS for example), and to not need a PC for Kodi alone:

- The name absolutely sucks. Googling anything gives tons of Chromecast results...have to filter "last week" to get relevant results. Google's marketing employee who signed off on this should be fired
- Device is pretty snappy!
- Apps available in the play store like any other Android device. Those that aren't can be sideloaded easily
- Kodi works very well, 1080p / 4k content without issue
- Main audio formats worked (DTS, DTS-MA, DD), but Dolby HD and AAC come as PCM stereo (tried both 18.8 and 19.0Alpha2)
- No problem with Netflix / Amazon Prime / Youtube
- I always had ambilights connected via serial (ESP8266 w/ WLED) to PC...I successfully got is working installing Hyperion in my server and installing Hyperion Android Grabber. Works OK with 1080p content, 4K is no go. One frame per 2 seconds...I guess too CPU demanding

Overall I am very pleased so far.
I do also have a ShieldTV (2015) in my living room, for a quarter the price Google got us a nice little device!
One poster asked about USB 2.0 vs 3.x before but no answers in the thread. Can anyone using a USB-C hub report on the throughput on Gigabit Ethernet and/or file transfer speeds between internal and external storage?

Thanks

Small correction... DTS-MA doesn't work, only core DTS is passed. DTS-HRA passes fine.

This one I tried does not work. Seems like a power issue, and you may need to buy a powerful-enough USB-C power adapter as well. The supplied GTV one didn't work, and only when connected to dongle directly. At this point, I'm waiting for other users to report on 'fully compatible' compatible USB-C hubs (power, storage and gigabit ethernet).

I have a few hubs with gigabit Ethernet ports that look similar and they seem to draw about 12W themselves with nothing plugged in. I believe the GTV power supply is rated at 7.5W so, assuming that is the peak power draw of the GTV itself, one would need a 20W USB-C power supply. Maybe higher in anticipation of plugging in storage etc.

If you have a USB-C powered laptop, you could use its power supply as an experiment.
This one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07H2Z...UTF8&psc=1 works with the original charger. Draw around 5 watts total with gigabit eithernet connected and CCGTV powered.

BTW, the USB is clearly USB 2.0 because the gigabit ethernet gives you only around 320mbps down/290 up.

That is a very impressive low power draw from the hub and even more impressive that a 7.5W rated charger could power the GTV, the dongle and a gigabit Ethernet link. Makes me wonder if a small flash drive could be added without driving it over the edge :-)

Bummer about the USB 2.0 though since that will affect storage speeds too.

Yes, one flash drive should have no problem but without exFat or NTFS support, the flash drives are quite useless.

The paragon app you can install will only allow you to copy files between internal storage and external storage. In order to play directly from external storage, you will be OS level file system drivers which means it either need to be already in the OS or you will have to root the device and install the root version of the app.

Are you perhaps running Samba with the minumum smb version requirements set to 3?
I'm struggling with 4k video on my setup.  Almost all of the files I've tried aren't working at all, displaying a frame a second or so.  I tested some 4k demo files and I'm getting the same results.  I thought I would share and see if it is just me, or if it's just a hardware limitation.  Initially I thought it was network bandwidth, but switching to ethernet didn't improve anything.

I tested 3 4k demos, the AVC file (Dubai) played the best, but I still got a buffering circle every 20-30 seconds or so.  The other two HEVC files barely played at all.  With my other files I played around with audio streams thinking it might be an audio issue, but I didn't have any luck there either.

I should also mention that my TV is 1080p, not sure if that is having an effect or not.

Thanks,

I encountered the exact same thing, only on 1080p TVs. All 4K files (UHD rips) play just fine on 4K TVs even if I set output resolution to 1080p. But on any 1080p TV, this is exactly what happened. Something isn't right. Among my 4K rips, only one file played fine without issues. I can't think of any difference between that file and other files.

Well that seems like good news that it isn't a hardware limitation and is instead just software bug.  I did a quick test plugging the chromecast into my 4k TV, but it didn't work any differently. I did change the resolution of the chromecast to 4k, but kodi was still 1080p gui.  I didn't have any other options come across in the whitelist.  I'm not sure that would of made a difference though.
That's a know issue with Kodi. You will only see 1080p in resolution list. But the actual video output will be determined by your Chromecast display settings.

I'm not sure this is entirely true. Whilst I agree that 4K will still be output with a 1080p GUI shouldn't 4K still be an option for the GUI? It certainly is for me, although granted I am using CoreELEC and not Android.

EDIT - Checked my Android install on Ugoos and Kodi gives me 4K GUI, although I am using a 4K TV. I assume 4K will never be listed on a 1080p TV because it's nonsensical & the HDMI handshake won't list 4K as a valid resolution.
