Hello!!

I've been using Kodi for a solid year or so and could not be more happy with it.
I use it on my Windows Desktop and Macbook Pro
I've also setup a Kodi box on a Raspberry Pi 4 for a friend who I taught how to use it.

My mom's birthday is coming up and I found out she's getting a TV for her bedroom, so I'd like to make her a Kodi box, but she's not super tech savvy (I'm sure she can learn something if it's as simple as say an Apple TV or along those lines)

What would be the best device/box for me to setup with her new TV?

If it's important, I may opt for a device that's 4K capable, and plan on having a VPN launch on boot and go directly to a specific add-on, she will only be using this one add-on.
Why not stick to what you already have experience with, a RPi4? It can do 4K, although HDR is still work-in-progress for LibreELEC.
Deciding what is "best" for someone is always quite difficult.

But, regarding VPN, we are not going to assist you as we have a VPN policy (wiki) on this forum.

From what I've read, while it can output 4K, the encoder/gpu isn't quite ready for pushing 4K content.
I'd probably lean towards either Firestick 4K, Fire Cube or Nvidia Shield.  I just imagine them being more straight-forward to use, but I could be wrong?

I'm wiling to do whatever I need to to make this the easiest experience for her possible.
I understand, I'm sure I can find a guide somewhere to auto-launch the VPN at boot, it doesn't seem complicated to make happen at all.
I'm sure there are also guides out there to configure Kodi to automatically load a specific add-on once it's done booting.

The end goal is for her to switch to HDMI-whichever, turn on the device if it's not on already (I'd opt for always on just to make this easier), and I'd like it to automatically be ready to browse/use.
The underlying device probably doesn't matter (from an ease-of-use perspective).  What I would have thought would matter more is what the UI looks like and how easy it is to navigate.  Perhaps a browse through the skins section of the forum might throw up a simple skin with easy navigation. I'm starting to think Klojum may have been on to something.

I know it was very easy for me to get Kodi to auto-launch on boot from the Pi

I see this thread and while it's not necessarily the add-on I plan on booting to, it's showing me the easiest way might just be to have the add-on on the home screen and she can just click it.

Do not need USB hard drive support = Fire TV Stick 4K, has the best, simple remote in the business. The 2019 Amazon Fire TV Cube is even faster.

Otherwise 4K HDR Kodi only, along with USB hard drive support, a Ugoos X3 Cube (running CoreELEC) + G20 Wireless remote is pretty cost effective, see the START HERE sticky thread top of forum. And yes there is VPN support, see HERE (click)

Need Kodi, USB, plus streaming Apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime etc then it's a Nvidia Shield. (not the Tube/Stick)

Kodi also has this Startup ability:

Can the Fire TV Stick 4K and/or Cube be setup to boot directly to Kodi?
Also, more importantly, can they be setup to connect to the VPM automatically?
@mgiara Perhaps you aren't aware but we do have a VPN policy here https://kodi.wiki/view/Official:VPN_policy so with regards to anything along those lines, you're on your own.

Okay, thank you for the heads up

What about booting directly into Kodi?
