Hi guys,

since a few days my setup gives me no audio for video files with an EAC3 track.

This is my HTPC setup:
AMD Ryzen 3 3200G with Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.11.1, but I have also tried Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.9.1 with no effect on the issue
Asus Prime B450-Plus, Bios 2202
16GB Ram
Win10 20H2
Kodi v18.9
The HTPC is connected via HDMI to my AVR (Pioneer SC-LX77), AVR connected via HDMI to my TV (Toshiba 55-ZL1G).

Whenever I play a video file with an EAC3 audio track the AVR just starts flickering on the FR and FL audio channels but I can't hear anything. Video on the TV will be displayed just fine (no stuttering).
If I play the same file not on Kodi but via Windows Movie App, VLC etc. everything works as it should. The AVR receives the correct bitstream and I hear the expected audio.
All other audio formats (AC3, DTS, DTSHD etc.) are playing fine via Kodi, also HD audio formats, just EAC3 is not working.
All of this was working fine a few days ago but stopped working from one day to another. After the issue occured I updated the AMD Catalyst driver but that had no effect.

You can find my debug log here:
https://paste.kodi.tv/inelocinub.kodi

Any idea what I can do to make it work again? Any help is very much appreciated!

Kind regards
Cov
Did some further testing on this issue and I think there is a problem with the video/audio sync in 23,976Hz mode.

I have taken 1920x1080@23,976 of the whitelisted resolution/refresh rate list in the display options so that now 24Hz beeing the closesed match to the 23,976 frame rate the test video file is encoded with.
With that change the file will play and EAC3 is correctly bitstreamed to the AVR.

Is this worth opening a bug or is it a configuration issue on my side?
Have you enabled the dolby transcoding, check it out by going into Settings, System, Audio and scroll down to the Dolby Digital (AC3) transcoding. If it is already enabled then check out past threads on the EAC3 sound issues like https://theminixforum.com/index.php?thre...plus.1892/. Hope it helps you out.

If you look at the file you are trying to play in MediaInfo what is reported for the Frame rate under the audio section? (It should be XXX SPF)

Yes this is enabled, and also that my AVR supports EAC3

MediaInfo gives me the following: Frame rate :31.250 FPS (1536 SPF)

OK so that means it is not sourced from HDDVD so that isnt the problem. You should not need transcode enabled if you receiver supports DD+.

Just want to check a few of the basics, are you using the WASAPI version of the HDMI output device in audio settings?  Is the sync audio frames setting enabled? (You do not want this enabled)

Here are a few screenshots of my configuration:
Display settings: https://ibb.co/4RT5RKy
Display settings whitelist: https://ibb.co/Qp2rT65
Audio Settings 1: https://ibb.co/DfBm84G
Audio Settings 2: https://ibb.co/S0fRLGR

With this configuration everything works as expected. Kodi will bitstream the EAC3 track to my AVR and he will decode it.

As soon as I add the red marked resolution/refresh rate combination to the display settings whitelist I get the issues desciped above.

Here you can find the full MediaInfo: https://paste.kodi.tv/itukaxised
As you can see the video is encoded with Frame rate : 23.976 FPS but as soon as I add that as a whitelisted refresh rate, audio will not work anymore.

Thanks for your support!

I cant see much wrong here except you may want to set the speaker config to 7.1 and also make sure that the Windows speaker config is 7.1 (NOT Atmos). The reason for this is if you have less speakers the receiver will downmix for you.

Works for me, Windows stays in 7.1 configuration, but in Kodi I set also to 2.0 and switched AC-3 encoding off. My receiver still shows 5.1.4 and/or Atmos. Previously I had problems with E-AC3, Audio dropped no matter whether 256kb/s or 640kb/s. With above settings, no more audio drops. All my HDMI cables are HDMI certified.
What was weird, all other audio formats (Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, DTS HD-MA) never had problems, only E-AC3/DD+.
Edit: I had this problem already with Krypton 17.6 DSPlayer, MadVR and LavFilters and still had the problem with Matrix Alpha 3

Cheers
Tom
Sorry to necro, but did you ever resolve this?  I'm having the same issue - passthrough works for everything but DD+.  DD HD with amots fine, all DTS formats, fine, but DD+ won't passthrough.
