Tivo pushed an update thru my local Cox provider yesterday, breaking my Kodi rig for Live TV.  Channels higher that 1099 appeared encrypted, and as a troubleshooting step I launched WMC and the affected channels showed an encryption message.

Cox re-paired my Motorola cablecard to the CetonTV tuner card, and all looks fine in WMC -but- the channels still appear encrypted in Kodi.

No updates are available for PVR WMC, and I got a connection error to github when trying to update ServerWMC.

Any assistance would be appreciated, as I'm not that fired up for a project to replace my current config.

Thanks!
wmc can handle cablecard-enabled channels with encryption, swmc cannot, I'm afraid you might be stuck.

Krusty - Thanks for the reply, but so far as I can tell, the channels aren't actually encrypted.  I have ServerWMC configured to tag -drm and -e, and the channel listing doesn't show any channels with those tags.  I also experimented by setting 'hide' for both drm and encryption, and the problem channels still loaded.

Cox customer support couldn't confirm one way or the other if those channels actually are encrypted, so I supposed there's still a chance that encryption was part of the update they pushed out last Friday.

***UPDATE: I spoke with a Cox CableCard tech who knew what he was talking about.  The network update was MPEG (dropping MPEG2 for MPEG4) and we confirmed the test channel in WMC.  He also confirmed no encryption was involved, and when reloading channels in SWMC the update box noted 0 protected or encrypted channels, so it sounds like something is going on with PVR WMC or Kodi itself.

Any tips or hints, or updates?

Thanks,

David
Try to run a live stream on one of these channels, after it fails post the serverwmc log somewhere and put a link it here.  To make the log file smaller, restart serverwmc before you do this.
A couple of Cox users of NextPVR have reported that Cox has enabled DRM on most of their channels leaving only local channels "open" on cable card.

Thanks for replying.  Standby for logfile, and fwiw I uninstalled SWMC and then installed the Install_ServerWMC_Preview-1260.zip uploaded on 1/5/2020 - no change.
It just occurred to me what might be going on.  I've seen before that when these lineup changes happen wmc keeps the old channel source and adds the new channel source on top of it, keeping the old channel sources but at lowest priority.  By default serverwmc takes that channel sources in the opposite priority order for live-tv compared to wmc.  Long story why this is the case.  If this is the problem you have a few options.

1.  Go into wmc and channel by channel delete the obsolete channel sources for each channel, depending on the number of channels this could be the easiest way or the most difficult.
2.  Re-configure TV on wmc, this will delete all the obsolete sources but may also be a pain to do, especially with your cablecard setup.
3.  Set swmc to use the same channel source priority as wmc, this setting is called Decoy_LiveStreamProtectLevel, set it to 0 instead of 1 then save settings and restart swmc.  This disables the live stream protection in swmc but the priorities will match wmc and live-tv should work again, but without the stream protection.
SWMC log posted at https://pastebin.com/qZB3jeWk - I tuned a good channel, then a problem channel, then back to the good, then back to the bad, then stopped playback and closed Kodi.

I heard that too, but the Cox guy said the update last week did not include encryption, and that's when this issue started.
He's right in a way the encryption probably didn't change (the are always encrypted, that is why you need cable card) they probably are now marked Copy Once.

From the log, both of the failed streams have:

2021/01/11 12:48:32.419 Parse> Unknown Guid summary: 50 instances of 2 unique unknown guids encountered

Found one of them with google:

So I still think it is DRM protection.  Have you tried play a recording on one of these problem channels back with kodi?

Yup - a recording I scheduled via Kodi will not play, but plays fine in WMC.

Dang it.  I read another message board where this happened to a Kodi+SWMC user and it 'worked itself out after a while'.  I'm open to ideas before blowing up WMC config and starting over . . .
I really don't think there is anything you can do.  I think for it to "work itself out" would require your cable company to fix these channels.

Yup.  That was an aspirational comment.  Thanks for your help, I'll chase Cox again.
I just wanted to add, I wrote the DRM detection piece of ServerWMC probably about 5 years ago. If my memory servers me it was only implemented for SiliconDust HDhomerun type tuners as this was all I had access to. It pulls the SiliconDust tuner channel listing file which contained information as to the DRM on each channel. This is likely why ServerWMC is not noting your channels as DRM. It likely would not properly detect DRM for Ceton tuners. Sorry!

Hopefully Cox will change their mind! 🤞
