I've got mySQL setup on my Pi3 and multiple clients pointing to it. However, when I start watching a movie on one client and want to continue it on another client, I would have to restart Kodi in order to see the movie in the in progress section.
Is there anyway to have the in progress section update itself regularly?

You only need to fully stop the video on the current Kodi client, then you can continue the video on the next Kodi client. Kodi does not keep track in the database of a paused or even running video. Otherwise your MySQL setup on one or more Kodi clients is not working properly. Check your log(s) for possible details.
