Hello

I have Kodi running on two Sony Smart TVs (Android) for a couple of years without issues, I play videos over SMB without any hitch.

However, ever since Kodi updated to version 19 this issue has come up for a few months now. Videos abruptly stops and I am sent back to the Kodi library I was at and I can resume were the video stopped, it happens randomly around every 5 to 10 minutes.

To elaborate, one Sony TV does not have this issue and is connected to the router by ethernet cable directly due to its close proximity to the main router.

The second Sony TV which is further, is connected over WiFi thru a second router (the 2nd router is connected by cable to the main router) that acts like an extender of sorts.

I have searched everywhere for a solution and I couldn't find what the real issue is or what the fix is.

I do suspect that this due to Kodi 19 having connectivity issues over WiFi, probably.

Please find below log that was uploaded from Smart TV by using the Log Upload addon from the Kodi respository.

To reduce the search time from the log for you guys, the video first stops at 18.28, resumes play at 18.36 and stops again at 18.43

Please note that I am not able to understand the log and I can easily get lost as I am not sure what to look for.

Any solution will be welcomed.

Hi, I'm no expert in this area but here goes

First you have read errors from SMB share in logs "Read - Error( -1, 103, Software caused connection abort )". Why this happens and why it seems to happen more in Kodi 19 is unknown. Have you set SMB min and max version both to v3 in settings?
Second I think there has been some improvements made for this error and cache handling for 19.2 so maybe try that when it comes available
Third if possible test NFS or HTTP share for playback (for HTTP and Windows easy setup for testing is to use server https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=352312)

Will give this a try in a couple of days. Thanks.
Hello again

The kodi version I have is 19.1
I have changed the min smb to v3

The same issue still happens, the video abruptly stops and goes back to the library.
Another issue showed up, the video would also pause wtih "source too slow" message. Not sure if from changing the smb setting to v3.

How would I update to 19.2? No update in the Google playstore?

That's because there isn't a 19.2 version yet. Current stable release is 19.1. I think you overlooked the "...when it comes available" part of the post above.

I'm not sure of the current status of the nightly builds, and if they would include any such fixes. Simplest is to wait a bit for us to release 19.2 to the store.

Thanks for the reply.

Does that mean there is no fix and the issue I am having is a known issue that may be fixed with the next update?

To my knowledge there is no "officially" a "known issue" about this subject. Personally what I suspect is that something changed in SMB/caching/something else between 18 and 19 causing lower/unstable performance in 19. There are some posts about SMB/NFS performance issues with 19 which could be related or not.

What could the cause be, only devs can guess. I'm quite new user and have personally used only Kodi 19.0 and had playback stop because of read error only once using SMB. My WiFI speed is pretty decent giving stable 300Mbit/s, using Sony TV (2020 model) as a client.

Test HTTP/ezhttpd which I suggested in previous post, it's quite easy to set up a test share for some high bitrate content.
Ive had the same issue since updating to version 19.3.

I have tried uninstalling Kodi, changing the SMB client to SMB V1 to V3, and changing my advancedsetting.xml. But nothing has resolved this issue for me.

I've also been getting another error as well. The error is Read Rate Too Slow for Continuous Playback. none of the have fixed that issue either.

All my media is on a 920+ Synology NAS, i playback my media on an Nvidia Shield 2019 as well.

I have posted the log file aswell.

That is not a log. It's a 50-time repetition of the same problem.
Try posting the full & unabbreviated log, so we see some context.

Are you sure the video file in question is not corrupted in any way?
I have followed the Debug Log WIKI and i have now put the log in two parts

I have another Nividia shield with kodi version 19.2 and the all files play fine on that one.

Sorry i didn't realise there was a banned add-on. I have now deleted this add-on and captured a new log file.

I will get the log link posted asap.

Thanks
