Full Version: display settings for 24/7 PC

Hi guys,

I've moved my old Kodi setup onto a new PC to take advantage of lower power use and the 4K and HDR features of the current CPU / GPUs, but I'm struggling with setting up the screen to do what I need.

My hardware is an Asus PN50 mini PC (AMD Ryzen 5 4500U) https://www.asus.com/Displays-Desktops/M...i-PC-PN50/, and it's going to be used not just for Kodi, but as a file server, to backup photos to online storage, and anything else I can throw at it, so it's powered on 24/7.  It's connected to an LG TV 49UH850V, which in turn feeds an old Sony surround sound system via SPDIF.

Can anyone offer advice on the best way to configure Windows 10 / Kodi when it's going to continue running with the TV turned off?

I'm currently using VNC for remote control, so sometimes Kodi is launched with TV on and connected, sometimes with TV off, and sometimes with VNC display connected.  Depending on what is connected at the time seems to effect the selected screen resolution both on Windows Desktop and in Kodi, and I'm seeing differences in how Kodi behaves because of it.

I tried to use the EDID override thing, but something in the way I'm using it has dropped the custom INF file, and put the display back to generic PnP monitor.

Thanks for any advice,
Jimwin
I fixed a similar issue by updating default display settings in the registry. See https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=322907

Thanks Andy,

I'm trying that, I'll see if it helps keep it stable.  One thing I have found that seems to help, is I've added a shortcut to backslash "\" on my remote.  When I turn on the TV and find the screen to be corrupt, I click the "\" and it puts Kodi in a window.  Do it again and the fullscreen interface is clean.  Not perfect, but a good workaround.

Cheers!
