a bitstream is a bitstream is a bitstream...decoding is the issue at endpoints. (audio system, display screen...)
kodi is simply passing the datastream(s) to their endpoint(s)...and that's why no HDR->SDR conversion within kodi
pointless to request conversion as a feature/upgrade, because eventually all endpoints will support HDR...or the next big thing.  The standards people always have work to do.
