Full Version: hardware-decoder for Libreelec on RPi 4?

Hello,

I was using Libreelec on an RPi 3 with HW-decoder for many years without any problems.

No I made a fresh install on an RPi 4, and am hafing trouble with Full-HD. Video is playing much too slow, so A/V gets badly out of sync.

Searching the net gives me very contrary results: some people say they have no problems at all, other people say they can't get it to work flawlessly. Unfortunately, there are in instructions on how to enable HW-decoding.

Can anybody give me a pointer on how to configure libreelec/kodi to properly show full-DH videos?

BTW: I am about FTA from Astra satellite
There is a LibreELEC forum where you can ask specific questions regarding LibreELEC.
The LibreELEC builds for RPI2/3 are currently not upto speed as far as LibreELEC v10 goes: f.e. HEVC support is currently missing.
The RPi4 releases are still under development but are coming along nicely with HDR support in the nightlies, assuming that you use LibreELEC on the RPi4 as well.
Which video type in your opinion is missing hardware decoding?
Thanks for your reply Klojum!

To be honest, I have no clue about all those video types.

When playing such a recording with mplayer, it says:
Code:

Playing 00001.ts.
libavformat version 58.29.100 (external)
TS file format detected.
VIDEO H264(pid=6110) AUDIO A52(pid=6122) NO SUBS (yet)!  PROGRAM N. 132
FPS seems to be: 50.000000

This recording was made by vdr from Astra (19.2 East) from this transponder:
Code:

ZDF HD;ZDFvision:11362:HC23M5O35P0S1:S19.2E:22000:6110=27:6120=deu@3,6121=mis@3,6123=mul@3;6122=deu@106:6130;6131=deu:0:11110:1:1011:0

All the HD channels show the same failure: video plays much too slow, so Audio and Video get out of sync. In addition, Audio has dropouts from time to time.

What makes me wonder: according to mplayer, FPS should be 50.0. But Kodi shows 30.0, and there seems to be no option to change this setting
I adjusted following settings:

settings -> system -> Resolution -> 1920x1080p (this was set to 3840x2160p)
settings -> system -> Frame rate -> 50 (this was set to 30.0)

and the problem disappeared.

Sorry for disturbing and thanks!
