When playing 4k movies the playback will suddenly stop after what appears to be a random amount of time. I have seen it happen anywhere between 5 min to 1,5 hour.
I do experience the same thing from time to time on tv-episodes but with a 4K movie it is almost guaranteed to happen.

my media player is an nVidia shield 2019 pro and is not updated to version 9.0.
All content i streamed from a local NAS on a Gigabit Ethernet connection.
my content is managed by an Emby server but all playback is direct and not through the Emby addon

Does Kodi crash to the Shield dashboard or does the file just stop playing ?

I have the problem that - also not consistently - Kodi stops playing and immediately returns to the Shield dashboard. https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=367257

This started happening 2 week ago and happened on Kodi 18.x, 19.x and Shield Experienxe 8.x and 9.x

Maybe it's a similar problem ?

For me it only exits back to the movie list, and I can start the file playback again.

on a side note, this is not really useful since starting a 4k movie half way through is basically impossible since my spinning HDDs are too slow search through a 46GB movie and Kodi will just give up.

Mine started this a few days ago while using my shield pro 2019. I tried in Kodi 20 and 19 and both stop when playing any movie at a random time and goes back to movie menu. It doesn’t kick out of Kodi. I tried a few other boxes and I do not have this problem on either 20 or 19 versions of Kodi. It seems like a Shield issue.
