Over the holiday, I was able to setup Kodi on a new Windows 11 PC. Everything is working well except browsing the music library via Genre is much slower on a new PC compared to a much older Intel i3 (exact same set of music albums).
Here are examples of what is working and what is working really slow - if anyone could test with their Music library it would be really appreciated.
Kodi Version: 21.1.0 (new install - not an upgrade)
Windows 11 (latest patches)
Hardware:
AMD Ryzen 7 7734HS (16 threads)
24GB Memory
SSD 1TB
Kodi is the only application installed on this device
All music is on the local drive (no network drives)
Comparing performance to an Intel i3 about 10yrs older running Kodi 18
*** Working well ***
Browsing via the following is performing as expected:
Music -> Albums = Kodi displays 3,000+ albums very fast (approx. 1 sec)
Music -> Artists = Kodi displays 8,000+ artists very fast (approx. 1 sec)
Music -> Songs = Kodi takes approx. 4 seconds to list 61,000+ songs (expected)
*** Performing much slower compared to Kodi 18 which is running on slower/older hardware ***
Browsing music via Genre path is much slower on the new hardware:
Music -> Genre = Kodi displays the list of 15 Genre's fast
Here is where it gets very slow...
Music -> Genre -> Soundtrack = Kodi takes 4 seconds to list 4,000+ artists under this Genre (this is much slower than Kodi 18)
* This is just as slow whether "Show song and album artists" is enabled or disabled
Music -> Genre -> Soundtrack -> All Artists = Kodi takes 10 seconds to list 1,100+ albums (this is much slower than Kodi 18 on much older/slower hardware)
If I run through these examples multiple times, they do not seemed to be cached in memory - performance is slow each time. I tried temporally disabling AV software and that did not change the times.
I have other Genre's that are much smaller (e.g., 100 albums) and they appear quickly. The larger Genre album lists are the only ones that are taking a performance it.
Is anyone else running Kodi 21.1 and seeing this with large libraries? Thanks!
