Hi All,
I came across this -
http://www.ee.ucsc.edu/~milanfar/softwar...ution.html

Looks amazing (check out the before and after images) - better than any 'upscaling' I have ever seen.
Any chance we could see something like this in a future xbmc?
Seeing as how that stuff is on a sparse research webpage, I doubt it's anywhere near fine tuned or well understood. Even if it were, chances are pretty slim it works in real-time on today's hardware.

Conclusion: Don't hold your breath.
Isn't Toshiba releasing a TV next year with a similar function "Super Upscaling" or something. Read an article about it the other day, now can't find it.
I'd also like to point out the bit about the tech being patented. Feel free to make large contributions to XBMC if you'd like us to buy the people owning this patent so that we can continue to give XBMC for free. Souls are very, very expensive.
Super-resolution is nothing new, try the software ALE if you want to try it out for yourself.

It is usually extremely resource-intensivee though, I'd say the chances for doing this in realtime is a few years away, atleast.
