Hi,

I'm helping a friend to install xbmc on his computer. Here is configuration :

ADM64 3800+
1 Gig Ram
NVidia 7300

I don't find is config very powerfull but compare to many other computer I install xbmc on, it's very similar.

The problem with experience with his config is a slow responsiveness when 3D animation occur, like when navigating in music or video list : scrolling, moving mouse, etc. I suspect the Video card to be the problem. Do anyone have success running XBMC with this card ??

Do you suggestto install a new card ?

Regards

If you suggest to brought a new Card, can you suggest some models (at low cost plz).
new card shouldn't be necessary. did you install the restricted drivers?
Yes I install the proprietary driver.

There is any test I can do to ensure my cards is powerful enought. Like a 3D bench mark ??

Also, the resolution of the screen is 1360 * 768.

Did you disable all 3D desktop effects ?

Kryspy
Hi Kryspy,

Yes, I disable the 3D Desktop effect. This is the first thing I did when I notice the problem.

Also, I run glxgears on my laptop. I got ~150fps. On the Media Center, I got ~120fps. I don't think the difference is enough significant to reduce the performance of xbmc. Don't you ?

my htpc is ubuntu 8.04

1 GB RAM
Intel® Core™2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz
GeForce 7300 GS @ 1024x768 (proprietary driver)

and I don't have any of the problems you describe.
Hi averylinden,
May you try it at 1360 * 768 ??
Hi All,

I setup the resolution to 124x768 and got the same problem. It's very weird.

I will try to describe the problem in more detail :

Working :
- All animation between pane
- Video playback is OK
- 3D visualisation
- etc.

What doesn't work properly :
- In full screen : when using the mouse scroll, there is some latency and moving the mouse at the same time produce long latency.

- Doing the same operation in window mode work fine
- Doing the scroll operation using keyboard work fine.

We will try the XBMC live cd this evening.

This is not available to me, as I don't have widescreen. Maybe since yours is not working correctly you should try 1024x768?

Search the forum for other performance issues, specifically related to TripleBuffer and vsync.

Edit: should also mention that I don't use a mouse or keyboard - strictly lirc remote.
I run the MSI NX7300LE-TD256EH GeForce 7300LE 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card on my HTPC with both MythTV and XBMC, and I have none of these issues.

I have run it both with 136x768 on my old Vizio 37" LCD using VGA, and on my new Samsung LN46A500 using HDMI at 1920x1080.

My deviceSection from xorg.conf looks like this:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Default Device"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
Option "AddARGBVisuals" "True"
# Important!!! need this option to use nvidia card at 1360 x 768
Option "NvAGP" "1"
# Needed for ACPI suspend to RAM
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
Option "ModeValidation" "NoWidthAlignmentCheck"
# Causes Screen tearing...
# Option "TripleBuffer" "True"
Option "UseEvents" "True"
# Option "DynamicTwinView" "false"
Option "CoolBits" "1"
Option "NoFlip" "1"
EndSection
Hi averylinden,

Yes, we've try at 1024 x 768 and it didn't solved the problem ..

Also try the XBMC Live CD : same result.

I will look into TripleBuffer and vsync

Thanks
Hi All,

I didn't manage to solved to problem by enabling or disabling TripleBuffer, or Vsync.

Possible it's not related to XBMC it self .. I will continue to search.

Thanks all
