in fact i've had similar with a a few of the latest 3rd party builds

sorry for lack of detail but i'm dont know what else look for
(and for that reason i have opened a trac ticket)

basically get a crash whenever i open files or library views

A debug log (enable debug logging) might tell us more, but the first thing is that it can't find dll's - did you install a build that supplies the msvcr71p.dll files?

i don't know i've been using the build out of the svn build sticky thread
when i first installed 8.10 it gave me error of missing msvcr71p.dll so i went off and downloaded it from a dll download site and that seemed to fix it fine
