Full Version: LIRC remote randomly stops working after machine is idle

My remote is coming in through a Hauppauge PVR-350 and has been working flawlessly in MythTV for the last 5+ years. It is LIRC based. My XBMC is built from the Linux svn tree (17936 or so), running on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.

It works in XBMC most of the time but sometimes if the machine has been sitting idle for a while with the screen dim, when I go to use the remote it doesn't work. So far I haven't figured out anything that will make it work again unless I restart XBMC. It works fine after I restart XBMC. At least until it stops working again after the machine has been idle.

It doesn't do it every time. I'm not sure if it matters how long it has been idle or what. I don't see any errors in the kernel logs or anything. It's just weird.

Any ideas?
does "irw" still register your remote commands after an idle period?
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with Lirc 0.8.7-pre3 and I have exactly the same problem. If the system is idle for a while, the remote no longer works.

These links seem to describe the same problem:

In answer to your question, no, once the remote is ignored (after idle time) irw doesn't register any commands.
