I have an ati RS690 (x1250) with tv-out, using catalyst 9.2 and xbmc-svn 17392

I have set xbmc to use vsync only in video playback

In the idle menu, the cpu (athlon x2 4800+) the cpu is around 40-60% and power consumption very high if compared to the xbmc for windows consumption

In video playback, sometimes vsync seems to be enabled, but the video is slow (not fluid) especially with high movements scenes...
sometimes vsync is disabled in the log there is

Code:
WARNING: EnableVSync - glXGetVideoSyncSGI failed, glcontext probably not direct

I've seen this bug: http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/4382 but it's marked as solved...

Thanks
I think most ATI users are setting VSync to be always on in the Catalyst Control Center and turning VSync off in XBMC. That's working for me at any rate - ignoring the jittery video that many people seem to be seeing (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=38530). I'm using Catalyst 9.1 (about to change to 9.2).

I'm curious about what the patch in http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/5951 does. The ticket seems to imply that the newer Catalyst drivers do Vsync waiting without consuming 100% CPU, but a code change is needed in XBMC to support that.

I'm hopeful that with that change and the work that is being done in the smoothvideo branch (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=46091) that we'll be able to get buttery smooth playback using ATI drivers.
yeah,
it's far better with your hints.
