Hi
I was looking into getting live streaming of the BBC tv channels but the RTMP streams used don't seem to work even though they are very similar to the ones used by the IPlayer plugin on TV catchup .
I can get VLC 0.9.8a to play the live RTMP streams though using
rtmp://cp56493.live.edgefcs.net:1935/live/bbc1_simcast@s3173?auth=$A&aifp=xxxxxx
where $A is replaced by token (which goes stale quickly) from the xml at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/gti...e&cb=93791
The mediaselector url is generated from the contents of
http://www.bbc.co.uk/emp/simulcast/bbc_one_london.xml
This url also indicates that the video has attributes of
width="640" height="360" type="video/x-flv" encoding="vp6"
These attributes are very similar to the IPlayer catchup attributes
width="640" height="360" bitrate="512" type="video/x-flv" encoding="vp6"
Any Ideas?
Cheers

Interesting to know VLC can play live streams - thanks for testing it. I'm currently looking at the high-quality streams in preference to live, as it's what I'd prefer to work first
Thanks for the info Frosty.

Can either of you guys please tell me whether this is still the case that the XMBC RTMP thingy (sorry for the lack of a technical term) can not handle live streams yet?? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Yup still not working. Looks like RTMP is being worked on

I'm not sure if this is any help but, there is a guy over at sourceforge that has written a patch for rtmpdump that allows it to handle live RTMP streams. I know that rtmpdump is built from code used in Boxiee and XBMC so maybe it would be possible to use the patch on XBMC. I'd have a go myself but I wouldn't know where to start.

Could you supply a URL or some such. Sourceforge is a big place

If you do a search for rtmp, you get 10 projects... none of them really look like a "patch" per se -- more detail == more helpful.
Sorry, I forgot to add a link. Here's a link to the message
https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.ph...id=7130485 That's about all the detail I've got I'm afraid. Hopefully it'll be of some help though. P.S. I've just been told that PLEX supports Live Streams. Not sure how true that is as I've got no way of testing it, but might be useful for someone to take a look.
From what I can gather, plex does work with live streams, but they use the webkit browser (Safari Based) to display the videos as opposed to displaying the actual streams in Plex itself.
Okay, I added these to Navi-X a while back but since some people are resistant to use it, here's the BBC streams I found that work online... add them as a video source in XBMC and you should be fine. Enjoy!

Hey Guys. The newest version of RTMPDUMP now supports live streams. As I know that it is built on code borrowed from XBMC is there any chance this can be used to get live streams working?? The project can be found here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/rtmpdump/ Thanks
