I would like to change /add controls for music tracks playback in the XBMC
where in keymap.xml do I need to make modifications?

depends on where you want them, doesnt it?

either you map them under <global>. that way they are global unless there are window specific overrides.
or you map them under <windowname> if you want to do local mappings
