Hi,

My old XBMC xbox has finally and tragically died, and I need to replace it.

I’ve been reading through the forum and hadn’t really considered putting XBMC onto ATV. I had been checking ebay for mac minis, and looking at the newly released models.

However the price difference has me interested in the ATV. It does sound like the ATV remote is a long way from perfect. I’m also coming from a Windoz background so I’m not that confident about installing XBMC, but sure I could work that out.

Do you think the big price difference (in Australia the minis go for about $1000.00 ($1400.00 for the 2GB memory one) whilst an ATV is $450.00) is worth going to a mini?

What advantages are there in the minis over the ATV?

The unit will only be used as a media server, playing mostly music and downloaded TV.

Reliability is a big issue for me. I want the thing to work. Is the ATV flakier?

Thanks for any help.
The Mac Mini is more powerful. Period.

It allows for easy software installs without warranty voiding. If you use Plex, it will take advantage of multi-cores.

It's what I use on all my televisions.
