i've uploaded a provvisory ntsc version of my skin "symbol" here:

i made it with a small 7'' lcd dispay that supports ntsc but i'm not sure if it's ok on normal ntsc tvs, so please i need somebody to test it for me and report every bugs regarding buttons positions, overscan etc..
the home window is ok now?
what about the others window?

p.s. the skin works with xbmc 1.0, not sure about later releases.

i guess i'll need to modify all the xml files to make it work in the right way.

ok, tried it out..

all the buttons and everything seem to be in the right place and aligned properly.

just the left side of the display seems to be running off the screen a bit.. so it looks like the skin is a bit too wide.

other than that, everything seems ok..

everything is lined up properly, but there are still a bunch of overscan issues. specifically on the left side of the screen (on almost every page), and on the bottom in myprograms, mymusic, etc..

i did a bit of tweaking to home.xml and myprograms.xml.
here is the ntsc folder i came up with.
symbol ntsc folder.
the rest of the pages would need similiar tweaks as well.

i had to do some weird stuff with the background position because the xbmc logo is part of it.
you might want to consider splitting the layout into a bunch of textures to make layout changes much easier.
or perhaps using a different background without the xbmc logo for myprograms, mymusic, settings, etc.
(so there is enough room on the left for the label)

i'll remake the background in separated pngs because it's also needed in the 720p and 1080p resolution.
starting from the xmls files that pid87a has adjusted, i'll make the mods to the others menus, but that will take some time.
i'm wondering, because of the left overscan issue, if the thumbs panel in the icon view is ok or it need to moved on right a little bit( the first thumb is drawed at posx=50).

at last i would like to know what are the sizes for each resolution:
pal=720x576
ntsc=720x480
720p=??
1080=??

i'm using your skin with the 1.0 version of xbmc (xbox-htb) in pal 16:9.

i love the skin but i am having constant problems with it - get the message "access denied" when just moving between buttons in the main screen and also am suspicious it doesn't handle network shares as well as the other skins such as project mayhem - ie when you click on the network share your skin will often just hang and go nowhere requiring a reboot.

has anyone else had problems with it. btw i downloaded a 29-06 package including your xbmc and your skin

ps i have no other network issues - eg i can ftp to and from xbox at 6.5mbps

i had the same problems here and this make me think that this should be due only to the recently media added section, so if you want you can delete that control from the home.xml.
i'm really sorry about that but i cannot do nothing more for it, i saw many people experiencing the access deneid problem with others skins too and maybe there is something else wrong then just the r.a.m.

i think it's caused by recently added media. i was getting the access denied messages because my desktop computer was off and i had video shares defined that pointed to directories on that computer. if the computer is on, then i don't get the messages.

it would be great if this message could be disabled so that even if the share is not available, we don't get this message. also, being able to exclude paths for r.a.m. would be great as well. if you have a replaytv hooked up, r.a.m tries to get names for all of your shows from imdb and it takes forever and the names are all wrong.

ok, i took a look into the log file and i found also some other issues.

the 3 errors are:

they don't show up all the times , some times it works perfectly.
none of them show up if the r.a.m. is disabled.
i have no idea what is going on in the r.a.m., need a developer to take a look to this errors.

i am solving my problems one step at a time.
first step done - updated to 17 july cvs build using mayhem as default skin

now, all network and access denied issues are gone and everything is running as smooth as silk - ie ftp at 7mbps, videos are normal etc

next step is to download your latest skin, remove ram control and test. will do that tonight

m
