Hi,

I´ve installed XBMX using the wiki

http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=HOW-TO:_Inst...ep-by-step

Can I force X to intialize on the HDMI output, meaning that I want the picture so be sent out using only HDMI.

I have a problem with getting picture with HDMI. The only way to get this is to boot the computer with VGA cable, then when the XBMC logo appears - I unplug VGA and plug in HDMI.

There has to be a way to get picture over HDMI without swithing cables?
This questions is really better for the ubuntu forums. You'll get better answers quicker there.
Anything in the BIOS you can change? Mine works as "auto".

A description of your hardware and posting your xorg.conf might help.

Thanks, here is some more info about my setup

I have a a Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H motherboard. It is has GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i Chipset with HDMI + VGA + DVI output.

Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) is installed on a 4BG usb flash drive

There is nothing in BIOS that I can change to solve this. I have verified this with Gigabyte. The only thing that is relavent in BIOS is which display device is intitialized first, I one have the onboard GPU.

My Plasma is a Panasonic th42-pz70.

I use this xorg.conf:
sudo wget http://217.20.138.65/xbmc/xorg.conf -O /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Video is initialized correctly over HDMI if I use Vista.

I have the same mainboard but I run Hardy. I will check when I am at home and post my xorg.conf.

When you boot with only the HDMI cable connected, do you see all the booting messages in the screen? I do.

Thanks!

I can´t see any booting messages (and BIOS info) with HDMI cable connected. Works with VGA.

Are you routing the HDMI through a receiver to the plasma or directly to the plasma?

Directly to the plasma

Cool thanks for tha xorg

I am waiting to deal with a similar config question and I will definately look at your sample.

With my motherboard which has a 9300 onboard chip, the HDMI will only activate during boot if I have the TV on and set to the proper input. Its like the computer doesn't see the TV there so it never outputs to HDMI. I am guessing its a EDID thing.
