Here is some reading material. I am on my way out, but will look into this more later and see if I can provide some help.

Thanks for the link but it didn't really help at all. What I was able to do on my own was this:

and am now enjoying XBMC on my TV (again).

I found the fix somewhere on the forum.

What I did was select XBMC (safe mode) by hitting escape at the boot options.

Then I logged in with xbmc/(password)

Then i ran the nvidia-xconfig as root:
Code:
sudo nvidia-xconfig

once I rebooted all was well.

Just FYI I took a different approach that worked with some tweaking.

1. I could boot from the DVD into Nvidia mode without any major issue.

2. I installed to HD but then got boot to black on my HDTV.

3. Discovered that there was no xorg.conf in /etc/X11/ so I booted the DVD again to see if there was one, which there was.

4. I SFTP'd into the box and copied the xorg.conf. Then rebooted off the HD, put the xorg.conf into /etc/X11/ and was up and running.

Still needed a variety of tweaking, but was able to get XBMC up and running that way.
