Ok, this may be a bit of an odd question, but I ran into this software called UltraStar Deluxe - its a karaoke software like singstar. The wife is a big fan of these games so I tried compiling it but was having problems. Some suggested that if i upgraded my binutils to say version 2.18 (binutils_2.18-0ubuntu3_i386.deb) the problem will be fixed.

Not know a whole lot about linux, my question to XBMC was, how will this package affect me compiling xbmc source, if at all? I'm not sure if it is required by xbmc? I dont have any problems compiling xbmc and would like to keep it this way as xbmc is way more important than this singing software. Does anyone see a problem in this upgrade?
binutils is used in compiling EVERYTHING on linux.

And no, it won't hurt your ability to compile xbmc to upgrade.
