I've been experimenting with Myth 0.22 because I want to "finally" put my hdpvr to good use. Mythbuntu has a repo up for trunk so I gave it a go.

I also tried the latest Mythbox script Big Grinand everything looks like it should, except for the actual playback. Seems like it's playing the clip a 40fps and then every 5 seconds, skips a hell of a lot of frames to catch up. VDPAU or not it's the same result.

I'd love to hear from other users, seing if they can reproduce this, you can check out a sample file from this blog http://blog.arogan.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Please tell me if there is any extra info I can provide (I'm not in front of the box right now, but FWIW I'm running the svn from the intrepid repo as of June 9th 2009)

I'd be interested in your capture settings. I'm trying to debug this but my HDPVR seems to capture playable video content for 720p-60fps.
davilla, thanks for looking into itLaugh

On my end, the capture is the default settings. At first, before doing mythtv I simply did a cat /dev/videoX to a file and thought that was the reason, but after capturing a show on the backend using Myth's default settings, the result in XBMC is the same.

The default settings are here http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HD-PVR

I'll definitely make some more tests as soon as the family's asleep and I can reboot the server.

Can I give you any logs or something?

SebJ
Ok, so I did some tests.

I tried with a brand new xbmclive 9.04_1

No hdpvr clips play in sync.

If anyone can repro that could be helpful, the files play at 40 fps not 60.

logs not required, I've got a few samples now that show the issue.
Thank you very much for taking the time to check this out!Big Grin

It's reassuring that my box isn't the only one that's having a rough time with these files.

Let me know if I can help test in any way.

SebJ
@davilla, should/can I log a bug concerning this?

As you can imagine, I'd like to track the progress if that's possible.

yes, go ahead an make a trac ticket about this, include the URls to the samples and your xbmc.log. There's an existing ticket (http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/6051) regarding vdpau and 60fps HD-PVR content but that's really a different issue than what is going on here.

ffplay built from a pull from ffmpeg svn plays better but getting audio sync issues.
http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/6778

I created the ticket. Let me know if more info is needed, this is my first ticket, so I might have overlooked something.

Thanks!

Sebj
Still an issue, but if anyone is interested I worked around it a bit.

I got some HDPVR sample clips off the net that were 1080i from the HDPVR and for some reason those played much better.

So I changed my set top box to output 1080i and using the Mythbox script, I've got HD after more than a year of wait for the HDPVR and Mythtv.Huh

Playback isn't as smooth as I'd like (Not a fan of deinterlacing) but it seems like this is something you can try if you're concerned by this ticket in the meantime. 1080i's better than 480i.Rolleyes

Hey Sedj ive been trying to get mythtv working with xbmclive. How do you do this?
Could you steer me in the right direction.

This currently works with a 0.22 backend, while the native XBMC doesn't seem to work as well as 0.21.

I just started experimenting with mythbox and 0.22 this weekend, before on mythtv 0.21 I had this in xbmc live :

I added this in my sources.xml
Quote: <source>
<name>*X2 Mythtv*</name>
<path pathversion="1">myth://mythuser:[email protected]/</path>
</source>
sebj i meant how do you install it with XBMCLive, is it just a matter of going CTRL + ALT + F2 and installing mythtv. if so do i need to install the backend and frontend.
If also this is how you do it does myth backend auto start up on boot even though it boots straight to XBMCLive?
Ok, I get it, sorry.

Well, I'm not running myth on this machine. I've been using Myth for a while and have a dedicated server set up for it. Makes sense this way in my setup.

You could probably apt-get Myth on xbmc-live and run the config stuff on another computer with ssh -X [email protected]Machine. ( -X forwards the graphics) Then again, XBMC is a pretty stripped distro (which is cool) and I have a feeling you're going to be pullng down a lot of packages.

In theory, Your xbmc live would also then be the backend and that's doable.

The install process should create all the startup scripts you'll need.

Not my preferred workflow, I'd much rather run the myth stuff on a tucked away server loaded with harddrives. HDPVR so far is around 2.5gigs for a half hour show.

I'm presently running XBMC live on a USB stick, and will probably ditch it all when a new XBMCLive release comes around. On that day, I don't want to manage migrating my Mythtv setup to the new XBMCLive.

This is pretty long windedBlush, and I'm sure you have your reasons for wanting this, I'm just saying there might be more flexible ways of adding Mythtv to you household.

SebJ
I just want to have the option to watch and record live tv and i've tried the dvr option and its sooo slow to do anything ive used mythtv and i like it but it doesnt look the best so i wanted to have myth backend and xbmc frontend.

I've tried mythbox and its still not very good, you can't change channels while watching a channel and you cant record that easily.

I also tried your way but you can only watch tv not record and the tv guide doesnt work.
