Hello all,
I am having a problem with my sound card and xbmc. I am running Ubuntu 9.04 and I have the Creative X-Fi Xtreame Gamer card. I cant get digital audio pass thru to work. When ever I try to watch a movie with sound going to my reciever via spdif. I get the "Failed to initialize audio device"
I can get the pass thru audio ie DTS and DD with VLC.
I have tried playing with the Hardware Audio settings in the XBMC system settings, but no luck. Can anyone assist me with this? Thanks.

Please see the stick regarding posting problems in a useful manner.
Sorry about that,
Revision: Pre-9.10 R22240
Linux Distribution and Version: Ubuntu 9.04
Architecture: x86_64
Install Method: PPA

And here is a link to my xbmc.log file.https://www.bherville.com/~brad/xbmc.log

By the way I can get stereo if I change the audio settings from Digital to Analog
I have temporarally switched back to using my motherboards build in audio and its working with XBMC. But if anyone else has had this problem I could still use some help. Thanks.
Did you disable the onboard card on BIOS when trying with the other card?
