edit: i've sorted that now i was trying to go in via the video tabUndecided

i'm still not getting audio though.

i've set the video output to analog and everything is set to hdmi, hdmi is enabled in the bios.

i've tried different hdmi cables and hdmi ports on my amp and still nothing.

i'm getting an error message when i try and playback video or music saying "failed to initialize audio device check device settings"

could this be as i've installed the latest build? i'm thinking as i'm a noob i should i reinstall everything and stick with the stable build, what do you think?

flxfxp Wrote:Did you reboot? check to make sure the keys are coming through correctly. kill the bluetooth deamon by doing "sudo killall bluetoothd" and start it manually with debug by doing "sudo bluetoothd -nd"

Let me know of the results.

Yes i did, i followed your tutorial step-by-step!

here is the result.

When i press any key on the ps3 remote, there are no new entries in the debug log.

andyblac Wrote:hi flxfxp,

need some help, did the above got to point 10. but XBMC never starts. here my error log, i must mention i am trying to install on a MacPro with 2 HDD's primary HD clean hdd with a master boot record partition map. (created through linux install).

i can get linux full install work with no problems but if i try to run your script it breaks the install. (GUI no longer loads). thats why i tried the above
procedure, it seems to be trying to change the partitions using FDISK ?? but it not compatible with GPT (i assume MAC hd partition scheme)

any ideas ?.

Andy.

Have you tried a normal PC-Keyboard?

Ubuntu has a problem with the Apple-Keyboard-Layout.

Pressing F1 in OS X lower brightness of the display.
Pressing fn+F1 would do the same as pressing F1 on a PC-Keyboard.

Evin Wrote:Even if I wasted an entire Sunday... I solved my problem.

Before running the Script, I installed a desktop:
sudo aptitude -y install xserver-xorg-core xinit menu menu-xdg jwm fluxbox alsa-utils mrxvt gdebi-core synaptic logrotate localepurge

Then, I fixed the issue with the fn-Key on the Mac-Keyboard:
Opened a terminal: sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/hid_apple.conf

Added this line to the opened file: options hid_apple fnmode=2 and saved it.

Terminal: sudo update-initramfs -u

Then I started your script and installed the stable build. Thanks to the previously fixed keyboardsetting I was able to start the terminal: (right) CTRL + (left) ALT + F2

Tomorrow I will reinstal everything with an normal PC-Kayboard. But I have defeated the ugly Apple-Linux-Dragon on my own.

i think i was down to the fact it was trying to install the NVidia drive that where not compatible with my 7300GT in my MacPro i did a full install from a complete Ubuntu cd and got every working except my PS3 remote. linux is detecting the button press but not XBMC .
when using an asrock ion 330, should alsamixer have to be adjusted for hdmi audio out? or is the default fine?
Andyblac and frozenice, these issues are too complicated for this "newbie" thread. You might want to try "hciconfig hci0 reset" because the remote doesn't respond like it should.
It should do stuff like:
Code:
bluetoothd[3493]: Incoming connection on PSM 19
bluetoothd[3493]: ps3remote_event: Passed key 106:1
bluetoothd[3493]: ps3remote_event: Passed key 106:0
bluetoothd[3493]: ps3remote_event: Passed key 106:1
bluetoothd[3493]: ps3remote_event: Passed key 103:1
bluetoothd[3493]: ps3remote_event: Passed key 103:0
Anyway, I'd like to refer you guys to this thread, which is more ended to technical users.

Good luck,

Dennis

p.s: Andy, you don't need lirc.
ThEgOg Wrote:when using an asrock ion 330, should alsamixer have to be adjusted for hdmi audio out? or is the default fine?

Alsamixer doesnt need to be edited for hdmi out, you just have to make sure all outputs are enabled and have volume. The out/through-put devices have to be set to hdmi though. I've had some reports that this depends on your receiver...
Be sure to read this thread and the one for the asrock ion 330: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=52460&page=36

Just check their respective threads for installation. I might add them to the script sometime...

i've fully formatted and reinstalled it 4 times now, followed your guide to the letter, got everything set as it should be, rebooted god knows how many times and still no hdmi audioSad

i'm begining to think it is be my onkyo receiver thats the problem, i had problems last year when i built a htpc that had hdmi out, all to do with the "handshake" between the two or something along those lines.

its really frustrating as i've got my movies set up and it all looks amazing, just no sound:confused2:

thanks for the help anyway mateSmile
I have installed the script twice on my ubuntu box. I have a 865g integrated card. For some reason when I install the script it puts my box in a loop and it keeps crashing and I have to install all over again.

I cant get passed the 1st option of installing the stable version. Question what driver should I pick as my card is not nvidia when it asked me to pick on the initial install?

I assume you're using a asrock ion330? I would suggest to try other audio hardware, it works fine with my receiver
flxfxp Wrote:I assume you're using a asrock ion330? I would suggest to try other audio hardware, it works fine with my receiver

yes using asrock ion 330, i think i've ruled out my reciever by trying on a friends tv directly into one of the hdmi ports and still no audio:confused2:

not sure what else i can try really, do you think i should try installing live on a usb stick to see if that works?

or is there anyway i can check the hdmi port itself isn't faulty?
when you plugged it directly into ur friends tv, did you enable downmix multichannel? also untick dts and dolby. Thats the only way i get audio from my tv via hdmi.

cheers.
