For the past month, my minimal ubuntu XBMC build has been working great. Then somehow, my Movies library was gone (as if i have never set content for my movies source)

I thought its a bug so i press reload xbmc from the menu (i'm using MediaStream skin). It never got back to XBMC dashboard but instead i got a black screen.

I rebooted the machine and still got to black screen. The computer seems to work fine (i ssh into the machine and all the services are working fine)

My setup : x64 Ubuntu, AMD x2 athlon with IGP8300 nvidia 185.x driver.

Can someon give me tips on how to troubleshoot? What might be the problem?

ps. I have done dpkg-reconfigure xbmc and reinstalled xbmc-live.

I don't think that you are having problem with X server, as it would blink and try to bring the screen up, it will not stay put on black screen like in your case.

Try checking screen resolution on another monitor, as your present monitor probably can't use this resolution...
