<question to devs>Would it make sense to use the external libexif (and/or other alternatives) for exif and iptc tags parsing (and editing)? I'm evaluating the whole exif handling and the not so new request to put the parsed tag data into a database.
So this question: is it a matter of licensing, interfacing or something else I might be missing?

I'm experiencing lots of unrecognized tags logging although it happens with untouched (canon) jpegs. Apart from that, the fact that you can't rotate a picture such that it remembers the correct rotation the next time is the most annoying to me (more than the tag db per se).

yes that would make sense. no real reason for using what we have except it worked on xbox back when that mattered.
