hi im going to give xbmc a try after a few audio probs with mediaportal but was wondering do i need any extra codecs with it like
Haali Media Splitter. already installed
ffdshow already installed,
was just wondering is it fine to leave these on as the main films i wil be playing is mkv x264 and m2ts blu-rays thanks
p.s im using windows 7 rtm
You haven't read any of the stickied messages at the top of the forums, or the wiki.

You would have found out that XBMC is a stand-alone all-enclusive package. You don't need any codecs or splitters or anything for it to run. It uses its own internal codec package (ffmpeg) to do all of this.

You can leave your codec packs installed as XBMC doesn't use directshow. XBMC will completely ignore them.
thankyou for your help,i think its time to have a good long read before asking anything else thanks again
